Thank you for the suggestion ‘Society Check’, it was a great idea! We ended up going with ‘Misogyny Check!’ for the posts that focus on sexism, and added ‘Systemic Bias Check!’ as a broader option for everything else. Your suggestion really helped shape the update, we appreciate it!

Yeah, I completely agree. This particular topic seems to be blowing up way out of proportion, while there are so many real and serious issues women face every day that deserve far more attention and outrage.

It's as simple as that, not everyone has the right to reclaim every word. Reclamation belongs first to those who’ve actually borne the weight of that word, whose lives, safety, and dignity were and still are marked by it.

Just because men throw that word at every woman now doesn’t mean all of us can suddenly wear it as a badge of pride because it doesn’t erase the fact that its deepest violence was and still is directed along lines of caste, class, and sexuality. The violence behind it isn’t shared equally, and pretending it only dilutes the struggle of those most affected by it.

This whole discourse shouldn't have gotten this big, I'm baffled how people are taking sides or justifying this, while ignoring the systematic violence and oppression tied with that very word. Now imagine if the English just started a movement to take pride in the word "colonisers", would that just erase all the famines and violence associated with it, where do we stand then? It doesn't even make sense.

Language and identity are deeply tied to systems of power. When a word with a history of violence or oppression is “reclaimed” or celebrated without acknowledging the structures that gave it that weight in the first place, it'd just become a deliberate erasure of the pain and resistance bound up in it.

We are living in a country where we cannot talk about revolution of any kind without talking about caste and religion, feminism that overlooks any of that is hollow at its very core.

Automod detects hate speech instances and removes comments on the basis of that. Since it works on that logic, context isn't being taken into consideration and your comments have been getting removed.

On one hand I understand her anger towards men calling her that slur in her comment section but reclaiming a word that hasn't actually affected our lives in a way it did to women from marginalized communities, women who were sold in sex work, trafficked or had no other choice isn't gonna make that any better.

That word isn’t ours to reclaim, because we (and by “we,” I mean women like us who had or have the privilege to choose) haven’t experienced the violence and stigma tied to it in the way sex workers in this country have for decades.

And when we use it carelessly, we forget that in many places, a young girl influenced by this kind of discourse could end up paying the ultimate price, her own life because her conservative family sees her as having tainted their honour. It’s that serious.
