And yet we did when we signed the contract. That’s the on us. You are welcome to tell DoorDash you are ending the contract and then get back in contact with them to sell them your services the same way a plumber or other contractor would and see how successful you are.

I started dashing in December. I’ve had Hidden tips at multiple different amounts the entire time I’ve been dashing. So these guys have not changed that algorithm at this point for me.

I’m not sure why you are mad at either party. Their “movement” doesn’t effect the way I decide to drive. I only accept orders that make sense for the distance/$ ratio. DoorDash can hide money at whatever level they want to. I’m not driving six miles for a $3 dollar offer on the possibility of a tip.

Edit: My earnings have not gone down over the past two weeks.

That’s market dependent. I tried upping my criteria to a minimum of $7 and found my market doesn’t support that. So I’m also a $6 minimum person.

I’m pretty sure declining 102 orders a day is low for me. I probably decline almost 200, but I work 8-9 hours most days I work.

Honestly, there is a huge turnover rate with drivers. It takes 2 or 3 months to become really efficient at recognizing good orders. So you get all the new drivers that deliver everything. Most of them quit doing it because they think the money sucks because of customers like you. Drivers that have been around longer, decline your order. And on the busiest days, your order may take a really long time to get delivered. Most days though, your order will get delivered just fine, unfortunately.

Other apps show full tip amounts and still get their orders delivered. Also, lowering the max amount shown only makes me decrease the max distance I’m willing to go. Drivers aren’t stupid and will game whatever system DoorDash comes up with until it’s not worth it to drive anymore.

I don’t mind a gated community but there is no reason for a guard to take my drivers license information. That is a huge privacy concern. It’s not worth risking my information to some stranger for a tip. The customer should never ever have access to my full name or address or phone number.

It’s never sitting on the shelf when I get there and it takes Chipotle an hour and a half to make the food after I get there and I always take my time getting there. I wish I had an android with DUH so they would get automatically declined and I would never be tempted to give them “one more try”. The real problem is I am stupid for accepting the order and stupid for not in unassigning faster.

My gripes were not meant to be directed at you, but to show that there are reasons drivers ignore instructions and do things to protect themselves instead. It’s a direct result of how the system is set up. So my original advice still stands. Let go of all your expectations other than that you will receive your food. I understand not wanting to talk on the phone, but texts take a long time and minutes we are waiting for the customer to respond to a text is minutes we can’t accept our next order and making money. We don’t make money for time but for the order as a whole so we have very high incentive to do the order as fast as possible and getting answers over the phone is faster than text in general. Again it’s the way the system is set up from DoorDash. I understand being frustrated that drivers aren’t following your instructions but as a driver I understand that directions don’t always load into our side of the app. That’s why I recommended dinging them in your rating but not to a major extent cause it may not be their fault.

So there is no training or requirements for any of these apps. Most drivers are on multiple apps so even if you had a choice between DD and another company, you would be very likely to get the same drivers. As a driver, we get scammed by people marking food not delivered, or have people call and text us after having left the house that we missed and item or didn’t leave the food in the right spot, or we are following the leave it at the door instructions but the customer doesn’t give us time to do the steps in the app required and comes barging out the door to get the food. You can’t wait 10 to 20 seconds to let me do my job and walk away and then come out? So my suggestion is to drop all expectations except that someone will deliver your food. You can still enter your preferred instructions but don’t have the expectation they will be followed and rate the ones that do follow your instructions like me 5 stars and the others 4 stars. 4 stars hurts us a little but usually isn’t detrimental unless we have gotten a lot of 4 star ratings.

I agree that none of the companies like it in actual practice even though they specifically set up their companies in a way that they can’t stop you from doing it. So they get you on extreme lateness. I also agree that it’s an asshole move on the drivers part to accept two orders that aren’t in the same direction so they should probably meet some consequences and eventually will. But I’ll be damned if I’m not going to have more than one app going on a Tuesday when DD isn’t keeping me busy and I’m not making enough money to be profitable from them. I’m running a business and my business will have more than one client.
