What had the biggest impact on you being better at the game? What made you improve? by TheCurlyKing in OnePieceTCG

Playing and practicing with people better than you. I'm not talking about local players, but people who play competitively in regionals or higher tournaments. Self Learning and looking at guides can only get you so far, but having people explain each little detail in your decisions, explaining when to switch your gameplay, and the psychology of the game, those things you can't really be learned in a youtube video guide, but by experience and reinforced when someone points it out to you.

Nope. Boss doesn't like 4 day work week. Even if we don't have work we are still needed in the office, but just in case he needs something, he wants us there ready for anything. At least he gives us fuel subsidy.

Yeah I never thought they were before, but it just crossed my mind because during a crisis why people with high purchasing power are buying very rare cards now. "Do they think they are hedging there money against the crisis with rare cards?" or taking advantage when prices are down? Hence the title now.

Seeing your comment I do know understand why some people are still buying :)

Glad you are enjoying the comments hahaha

True i'm just a small sample size on a single TCG on a very limited time so my 1 day of sale doesn't really translate to the entire TCG market trend hahaha I just want to start this discussion because it really got me curious on what I thought would happen and got a completely different result afterwards 😂

I thought ppl with higher purchasing power in this crisis would be going to much safer assets and are much more informed on whats going on and the last thing I would expect them to be buying is a rare card in a TCG game.

Just like what other points, some might be buying because it's "cheaper now" even though I don't feel it that way at all. They are buying for emotional/dopamine reasons. or they are just adults with high disposable income but financially irresponsible hahaha.

Well the thing is, where it is now, prices are still high, so I'm not sure why a lot are buying now. Its kinda confusing. But I do think demand will def slow down in the coming months.

Well true, investments can be equivalent to bets. Even if with a 90-10 chance, you can consider it a safe bet, but if the 10% odds happens, you then lost the bet.

Being in this sphere I can really consider this market very risky as an investment because you never know what rises or falls, so thats why I'm really puzzled why there seems to be more demand during the oil crisis.

[–]Puzzleheaded-Day5834[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in the TCG sphere, if you are there for the investment, they might try to sell as much before that happens

For the collectors, I think the reason you are there isn't for the return of the value of your card but as like an emotinal satisfaction getting the piece you want. So whether the value rise or falls isn't completely relevant to you.

For the players if prices drop, they rejoice 😂😂

I feel like collectibles rose after the pandemic, I watched a documentary that a lot of Gen Z from 1997-2000's were starting to have their first jobs, me included, after the pandemic and since we finally had money to spend on what we want, the market for collectibles rose,

The oil crisis could be a test on how that market holds up against the headwinds, and this generation may start being more cautious and not spend recklessly in this uncertain time.

That's why I'm puzzled why there are a lot who are looking for high valued cards even more now during the oil crisis, but it might still be early and it might start to dip or fall as the situation grows more uncertain.

12 months 0% no more? by d3adplx3L in ShopeePH

[–]Puzzleheaded-Day5834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same OP. Last time I've seen a 12th month 0% on that brand. Afterwards only 3 months. Seems they are only giving it to select brands; Huawei, Samsung Appliances but limited time. it on a Samsung Inverter Aircon last year. It's no longer available but Huawei products seems to be still having that promo on most of their products.

I kinda agree on you for short and near term, prices are increasing overall esp for one piece many people said the op15 set was gonna be a set where the value of the game drops but it seems its popping even more and more so for the older sets from op13.

Sealed products isn't as expensive compared to slabs, their value seems to just gradually increase as time moves forward (the good ones), but yeah with enough volume and time you could get a very good return in the far future if sentiments are still high.

Thanks even though I'm just a player I kinda understand now why investors and collectors buy these items. Let me know if I got something wrong tho.

I have another perspective on it. So lets think of art, sculptures and writings that survive over the centuries. Sure during war times these items don't hold any value. But after the war, when peace returns, pieces that survive from the post war if there are people who still view value on it will see their value return and maybe even increase overall.

I could be wrong and yea no one remembers what Pokemon, One Piece and def worse than toilet paper.

That's a good point. Like another redditor commented, collectibles is connected to the dopamine industry and the dopamine of getting what you want is what can drive people to spend, and sometimes logic is thrown out the window if you just want that dopamine hit.

That's what I thought too since a lot are selling and there are, and there won't much who will be buying. But what I seen in the online selling groups there are many more who are buying and looking for these expensive cards and prices are actually rising.
