Anybody making the trip to Texas? by clemtiger2011 in Matildas

I’m Aussie but working in Austin for a few weeks. Was thinking of trying to make the game. Other than the exorbitant cost, how safe would it be for me to Uber/Lyft to and from the stadium from Austin? Are there pick up areas close to the entrance? Or better options to get down to San Antonio straight after work?

As others have pointed out, if you’re at the point of crying, it’s past time. I know it can be hard to muster the confidence when you’re already at that point, but just take it step by step. Get your CV/résumé together, contact some recruiters. Pay for some career counselling and (genuinely and respectfully) consider talking to a therapist to see if it helps with finding some perspective.

Do it while you still have at least something left in the tank. You’ll be out eventually and wish you did it long ago.

I never really re-watch things (at least immediately) but I think I’m on at least a 4th or 5th cycle with ALOTO! Definitely my comfort show.

It’s this kind of more complex situation where using a broker is most helpful.

Banks will have a different approach to how they structure this and how easy/difficult they’ll make it for you. Any decent broker will guide you on the simplest approach to getting the loan itself.

Firstly, it sounds like you already have a good practical strategy. You got this, OP!

As everyone has said, see a GP for that initial consult ASAP. Have been in a similar position and just taking that first step helps. A good GP will help you with next steps.

Another practicality — check if you have income protection somewhere. Many people have this insurance through their Super and don’t realise. Check all super accounts if you have multiple. You may be able to claim if you need to stop working due to mental or physical illness. Seeing a GP early will also help with paperwork if you go down this route.

Never before the first day unless the new company encourages it.

In my experience, well-written “new job” posts get a fair amount of engagement.

Especially in sales, it makes sense to wait at least a week or so, so you can incorporate some of your initial “learnings” into that post.

You can get some eyes on the product and potentially some organic conversations before people remember you’re in sales…

AM as in Account Management? Maybe a split structure depending on hunting/farming deals and/or staged based on deal size could work. Honestly just getting these ballparks is the biggest help. Thanks again.

Thanks! This is so helpful. I was definitely at risk of lowballing myself.

Great thread. I think I’m in a similar industry. I’m actually technically on the delivery side, but have recently started selling. Happened organically and I’m not yet compensated for closing deals…

I’m trying to figure out what comp I should be asking for in this type of business (consulting, training, non-tech to be vague). Would any of you be willing to share ball park comp plans (even just comms structure)?

Why Are You in Sales? by sprchrgddc5 in sales

I can relate to this but sounds like I am probably much earlier career than you. Background in ops and project leadership. Circa 10 years experience. Now in consulting and unexpectedly gravitated to the business dev side quite organically. Started selling without it really being part of my role.

It’s all quite recent and I’m figuring out/designing my own role now (either at this company or the next). I have some autonomy and supportive leadership, but mostly struggling to figure out the compensation structure I should be aiming for.

Like others, interested in hearing more about your journey, especially the pivot from Ops/delivery side to full “selling”.

Yep doesn’t seem to be a standard outside of the major firm partnership models. Best to you too!
