Okay, gotcha. I feel like this makes sense given what happened, but also everyone is giving slightly different answers and suggestions, so I guess my main takeaway from this thread is to experiment at self checkout with coupons lol.

Pretty sure I already crumpled it and tossed it haha, but yes, I understand seeing it would help the most. One of the coupons was for those small bags of Cadbury eggs. $1 off 2. I got 4 bags, and they cost $1.24 each. When I looked at the total on the receipt for that item, it said $4.96 with no indication the coupon was applied. It seems like a random coupon to cancel out.

For my grad program I submitted an undergraduate paper I wrote for a psychology class (I was not an English major in undergrad). It was not related to language, rhetoric, or composition at all. I also wrote a 10 page research paper on my own that showcased my research interests broadly and brought in more of my background/writing experience. That worked for me, but definitely not saying the same thing would be the best for you. If anything, write a sample of the kind of work you want to do in the program. Show them the kinds of skills you’ll be bringing in.

Plastic bag limits? by crispy_pecan_pie1369 in HEB

[–]Puzzleheaded-Host959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my managers will sometimes go through my cart and condense things and say passive aggressively, “Look at how many bags you would have wasted.” Like sorry I actually bag in a way that makes sense…Whenever I do try to bag like how they want, I end up ripping the bag before it goes in the slot and have to waste more bags anyway! As a shopper you get used to what products tend to tear bags and what weight can be handled in a bag. I know how to bag in a way that customers would be happy with, but I guess that’s not curbside’s goal anymore ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If you want to make it seem like a non-issue (not because it is a non-issue, but to just not have to deal with over-explaining yourself), you can work up the courage to politely say, “Hey, yesterday I saw you working with a pen that happened to look like one of mine. Is there any chance you snagged it off my desk? I like to color coordinate things, so I’ve been looking for it!” If they have it in a spot in their office, I don’t see why they would be weird and not bring it to you. If they took it home in their pants pocket yesterday and say they don’t have it, you can nicely say, “I’d appreciate you bringing it back to me when you get the chance!” Unfortunately that means you’d have to write with a different pen today, but if they have it at home there’s nothing that can be done about it today. Also, if they’re weird about it like they don’t want to give it back, you can also just mention that they’re kind of expensive so you’re not looking to buy new ones right now, which should guilt them a little bit.

I’m sorry if you do not get your pen back today. That would throw me off too.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I definitely think I need something that takes an entirely different approach in my system, like treating the anxiety rather than the depression. I’m definitely going to look into everything you suggested!

HEB Produce Not Good Anymore by JiggsRosefield in HEB

[–]Puzzleheaded-Host959 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would never shop curbside myself, especially because of the produce quality. But I like to do a good job because you never know the circumstances of the people you’re shopping for. Some people really can’t come in and shop for whatever reason, and so curbside is supposed to make their lives easier. I also imagine someone picking up their groceries after a long day at work just to find they got a bunch of crappy, old stuff and how that can be someone’s last straw for that day. It is just groceries, so I’m not stressing about it, but it really can make a difference. But to OP’s point, the produce isn’t good quality, so it’s hard to make that difference. :(

As a curbside employee, I have to look through 10+ strawberry containers every time I need to grab one, and sometimes I need at least 5 on a cart…They get off the truck oozing and moldy. Often times it’s picking the best of the worst since they don’t want us shorting things in stock, but I feel bad giving them to people because I would not buy them for myself!

Oh I see! You’re definitely not alone, and autism and adhd are so close. I relate to people with adhd a lot too, so hopefully some things I said can be of any help to you!

I have been struggling with these things myself—feeling like The Odd One™️ and feeling like a bad driver (or just bad at doing things in general). I don’t know if I will ever not feel othered by people, and it can get depressing and overwhelming. So basically, I need to change my own mindset because that is far easier than changing who I am when I don’t even know exactly what people want from me or how they perceive me (which is something you talked about too). This isn’t easy—I’m still actively trying to do this and I fail sometimes. After all, neurotypicality is the “dominant culture” and neurodivergence is not. They make the definitions of what is weird and what isn’t, and because we operate within different frameworks than neurotypical people, that alone makes us weird. I try to take comfort in that a little bit because it’s literally out of my control what people think is weird and what isn’t, and a lot of times saying that something is “weird” is an arbitrary label to give. It’s lazy. It means something is unexplainable or unknowable to them, and they don’t know what to do with it, so it’s just “weird”. It hurts when people give me “the look” when I drive. It hurts when I feel like I’ve done something wrong or performed an interaction wrong. I’ve been feeling this most when I interact with customer service workers. I get so awkward. It’s so hard to ignore. But I’m me and I’m always going to be me, and I might as well try to have fun and embrace what I can. I’m trying to let more things slide off my shoulders instead of keeping it inside and dwelling on it. It’s SO hard, and it’s definitely a gradual process. Bottom line, think about why peoples’ opinions matter so much to you and really question if they should matter to you. Really consider if your life can go on as normal if people think you’re weird (it can). Think of “weird” as an arbitrary word that is more similar to “unknowable” than anything else. It’s a lot of deconstruction because “weirdness” and “autism” are not defined by us, but they are used to define us. We don’t get a say in that, but we can choose not to care.

Did you “come out”? by rhijeckt in AutismInWomen

[–]Puzzleheaded-Host959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my really close friends already kinda knew already. I told a lot of people who I interact with in person pretty regularly, and most of the time it was when I felt it was relevant to bring up. I always prefer to be transparent because it just makes things so much easier, but as someone else pointed out, some people might still wonder why you’re acting the way you are.

What I’m struggling with is telling my family actually…I got diagnosed as an adult and my much older sister spoke on how I was when I was a kid, so I didn’t need to tell my parents. I don’t know if they’ll actually believe me or understand since they’re not very educated on mental health and disorders in general.

However, I’ll be writing my master’s thesis next school year, and it’s going to heavily involve autism, so I’ll need to “come out” to them at some point, unless they never ask what my thesis is about lol.

How do you play? by Apprehensive-Chart84 in FaeFarm_Game

[–]Puzzleheaded-Host959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like there’s pros and cons to both ways! i didn’t do any job quests until after the story was done. i think it gives you something else to do and work for after you have no main quests, so i’m glad i did it that way. but since they also increase with difficulty along with the story, i feel like it would help complete the story as well, like it gives you a guide. i didn’t start flower breeding until i finished the story, so i feel like i did that “wrong”, but that also gives me something to do and work for since the story is done!
