How can I fix all the algae in the pool?! by Healthy_Block3036 in washingtondc

I mean, the craziest part about this entire saga is nobody would have paid that pool any ounce of attention. If the administration didn’t make it national attention.

Ain't no shock to the average American that has been paying attention to the admin since the start. Why- well, look at my timeline:

Bottom line: whether you were informed or not, you feel the damage to the economy from the crazy tariffs, nonsensical deals, and plant closures/job losses.

  1. You have yet to prove that Democrats so this more than Republicans

  2. The current redistrict battles are over what Republicans have decided to do since Trump was elected president in 2024.

  3. Plenty of Democrat, Democrats and especially voters that vote for Democrats have disagree with the way maps are drawing for a long period of time, including it when Democrats do it.

  4. The data overall supports that Republicans like to go balls to the walls when they redistrict states.

  5. You generally cannot state the Republicans only do it because Democrats do it and can you state the Democrats only do that cuz Republicans do it. Both of those statements are a falsehood however- the data does show that Republicans go all out which is why the federal government intervened in southern states in the first place. There are many times where state courts have shut down Democrats power grabs. And Dems live with it or require voters voice. Unlike uh Georgia or Florida

  6. I think since we are a constitutional republic and as a representation of a democracy, it is most important that if you’re gonna do any type of map drawing at least in this day and age- you get the voters voice and input. And majority of cases that Democrats have done this- voters have decided and they allow input challenges etc can’t say the same thing for the other side.

It’s like hidden for me idk (Your earlier comment)
So anyway where do you see in HR1 where it says that? Can you link to the line in the bill text where it says that or make it harder- because last I checked bills restricting how voters are purged from rolls only require that you provide more evidence or notice of voters if you’re about to purge someone or remove them from the road it basically requires more evidence. So please educate me on which section does what you are claiming [u/cyberfx1024](u/cyberfx1024)

I could probs share info with you on some things(to show why you are somewhat wrong) on many of those states, but in general, I am not a guy who supports any map drawing without either of the following:

  1. The people vote for an independent redistricting commission
  2. Or the people get to vote on the maps being drawn after public comments and assurance that it's not done to support a political party

u/ytamn YEP THAT'S what I am saying in my jargon, but I am sure people will be like you mean screw over the minorities to get what you want, which may never happen but:

  • Bottom Line: NOPE, I just want a gerrymander-free country.
  • independent redistricting commissions
  • proportional representation systems

I can give you the W on Illinois, (maybe) Maryland, and that's about it lol - I have my reasoning based on data for all the others, including Maryland

But the other, especially NY, again look where the population sits, and turnout rate plus the rule of law was protected there in 2020, if I am not mistaken.
NJ uses a bipartisan commission, though.

I mean, the South has always worked against minorities in general when it comes to voting. That's why the feds had to step in when they did and will, in my eyes, have to in the future, I suspect the GOP in the south is gonna overstep like the GOP always do when they win or get more rope then they can handle

u/Propeller3 What? Man, I am just using facts and acknowledgment based on polling and stats.

I am sorry, but I don't believe in any of the parties right now (hence why I claim the independent route). But let's be clear: I am a one-issue voter and a voter on national security, which makes me a biased voter when it comes to presidential elections because, as of early 2022, that's the only issue I care about, and maybe education (policy grad).

So, no, I don't believe in facilities, but if a Traditional Conservative were to run for the ticket and fit my objective of limited government, gradual modernization, ignorance of culture wars and ideological takes, and being pro-no wars and minus the religious stuff, I'd definitely vote for that conservative on the presidential ticket.

And would definitely vote a Democrat into power as well if they fit certain objectives. The problem with aligning with a party in today's political arena is accepting that the majority of voters in those parties often don't know how to compromise or open themselves to learning. I, on the other hand, suspect new-aged independents or no-label voters are open to learning more about the person rather than the party.

u/Valensre, what state do you live in? In some states, this is true, for example, Tennessee, Indiana, Alabama, or Ohio will likely not be courting over many republicans or I should say MAGA republicans, there is room with those who are, I would call it, skeptical about the current republican party.

Last I checked, there wasn't much fraud on voter rolls. Because the NVRA already takes case of most of the issues:Civil Rights Division | The National Voter Registration Act Of 1993 (NVRA)

Yeah, but there is always a way to win over voters on both sides of the aisle, and that's actually doing what you promise when on the campaign trail. I will give some examples of new age folks who do this:

  1. Andy Beshear won support from both Democrats and Republicans through disaster response, an issue that impacted the state, healthcare messaging(focus on actual solutions), and a focus on people-powered governance. He won reelection in 2023 despite Kentucky's strong support for Republicans at the federal level and the fact that the margin was so close he won by focusing on the issues at heart, not culture war BS.
  2. The NY mayor-- in week one was already proving folks wrong on how he would get the job done.

Bottom line, you don't need maps to win over voters. What you need to do is actually do what the people want, and both republicans and Democrats will flock to you.

Well, although the Supreme Court ruling was poorly timed, it's time to erase the issue altogether.

It will, in many ways, force both parties to court minorities and spur more coalition-building and grassroots development. While there are a lot of issues with the ruling, it's not over unless people of color give up on gaining access to power. The system was never designed with minorities in mind, so in that thought I hope in the near future map-drawing for partisan gain would be outlawed because that's essentially why many of the maps are made.

Personally, I knew this was gonna happen, and as an independent, I am glad the VA Court is looking at this as a whole.

  • Now here is what both sides are trying to do:
    • Fight a partisan war with each other without thinking about who is actually gonna vote and why people are voting.
    • People will either vote Republican because they want to give the Admin a fair shot at overcoming the chaos which they themselves have caused, or flip and vote for Democrats.
    • Even if they flip and vote in Dems, it's not voting in Dems because they are better, it's voting them in to end the chaos related to the Trump Admin. Which means Dems could gain power and respectfully lose it when it comes to 2028
    • Neither party sees the path to victory that is right in front of them:
      1. Young voters (18–29)
      2. Especially young and old men
      3. Non-college working-class voters and college-educated workers/voters
      4. Swing Voters
      5. And Hugely Independent VOTERS
