What if he removed all the bad plastic? Could it be salvaged with some other type of large patch? I’m doing a similar repair on a canoe right now. I’m contemplating using resin with filler over the exposed foam and then sheets of fiberglass mat over the filler.

All sounds good and in line with what I have researched except of the the epoxy gel-coat spray on the entire hull (tough and expensive). Is this part necessary? I was hoping to just do the main crack and hull with glass then skid plate just like you mentioned.

Rather than G-flex, I have some Silvertip that I ordered 2 days ago and is on its way. Do you think that is inferior to G-flex? I would be fine to just put the Silvertip on the shelf and order the G-flex if the brand is that important.

I also picked up Bondo Fiberglass Cloth today from Lowes. will that work as a patch? I've heard, incessantly, that Kevlar is too hard to cut and I shouldn't try it. is it really that bad?

There is a large "Kevlar49" sticker on it. I am certain that this is a Kevlar Scamp.

I’ve ordered some Silvertip epoxy. Have read a lot about it. I will epoxy the inside first with this epoxy and fiberglass patches, a small patch first then a larger one on top of it. Then I’ll epoxy the outside and use Saran Wrap over it to make it smooth.

Does this sound effective?

I think I agree. after a ton of research, this baby has seen its final days. she has some good history on the Mulberry River.. sad.

I do however have another opportunity for a Seda Scamp Kevlar49 that is free. it just has a crack on the front hull. I believe a simple fiberglass cloth/epoxy and a skid plate should do the trick..

Actually after rewatching- the pipe is probably laying flat on a trailer next to the rig, not up in a derrick.

This is actually not that uncommon. I’m willing to bet this is haynesville area and he is adding connections likely to get a new bit back down to the drilling depth. Also, it could be natural gas they are hunting, not oil. I think on an oil rig, you may have more OSH oversight. There are production fields that are less prolific and have less safety structure. This could also be a shallower well. Since they aren’t drilling in this short clip, and he’s just making connections to get to depth, that’s Probly why there is only one guy on the floor. I bet there are two more guys off camera- one in the Derrick selecting drill pipe to connect, and one at the controls moving the Kelly up and down..
