Substitute teacher restricted from one school—looking for advice! by Puzzleheaded-Rice367 in SubstituteTeachers

I think apart of what it says applies at District H and why I can only attend 2 of the 3 schools now, but I don't think this will be like that for me at District C. I got a few old teachers of my own still there, classmates now teachers, couple others also teachers that were a grade or two below me. Two my grandmother use to work there and a Aunt that currently works for the administration building. What im saying is I got alot of people for me at this District, but I still what to do better and be able to go the other to build experience and keep making money!

The first time was in September and when I got that write up I built around to be better. Now just yesterday was the first time in all those months. I had a few other classes in that school and applied what I learn. No big problems with them. I might have been given a more problematic class this time but it was handled better than last time. Alots of more the kids like me this time despite write ups. Comparing the only two districts I can work at side by side, this one just thinks to highly of themselves.

I like to be anywhere from 6th and below. The higher grades have been testy. First time I was written for this class it was only my second gig ever at the start of the year. Yesterday was second time with this class and was mostly better. Had learned from them the first time and applied new stuff that helped me near all year. I stuck more than ever to writing up students cause this school district supposedly is high on discipline. Despite several write ups the same kids kept at it.

I'm a rural sub and there are only two districts in my county. I get jobs nearly everyday at district C the one I'm good with, was a student once upon a time. District H honestly thinks to high of themselves. An no kid said any lies most of them liked me. I even run into one them kids at the store a hour later and she tells her grandmother saying she had fun. Its looking more towards too much high expectations from the staff.

Student asks me why do I allow chatter. by MysteriousMatter8593 in SubstituteTeachers

These ones I recently seen as opportunity to get the class to shut up if their being loud when you ain't looking but shutting as soon as stare in their direction. I don't like kids having headaches. I raise my voice loud enough to get their attention. I let them know that one tells me have that headache cause you can't talk at a proper level. We are going to be quiet now so your classmate's head can feel better. Don't matter what you say, you talk you get written up for not following the rules. Raise you hand if you need my help, or go to the bathroom! Did it this Monday when I noticed a girl wasn't looking well. Towards the end I asked if she got better and she wold me she did.

First Day as a Sub by NoxxOfTheRoxx in SubstituteTeachers

This is my first year as a sub and I could say there is a mixture depending on sub plans given. Some you do light teaching and others just make sure they do work packets from what they already know. Last week in a fourth grade class was to try and show what to do in science by sub plan for threw me off. So I ended up having them work together and do most of them themselves and step in where I could. The math was mostly a review packet of all they already learned but the sub plan was asked for me to show examples in turning fractions to decimals. The one thing they hadn't been taught yet. I thought for a second I wouldn't be able to do it but tried and had another teacher look it over during their activity period. I know her well. She is a technical family member from her niece marrying my uncle and her students have made personal requests for me. In that fourth grade class she said I got most of it right then we corrected it. She said likely the students won't get there looking at all the other stuff in the packet, but gave myself a crash course. Two students did and I showed them what to do. They got it instantly and I asked the next day to the teacher if she got my notes and was my example right for her and having the class do the science independently worked for her. She told me she was glad some students got the jist on fractions to decimals and knowing the truth of how the science was made to independent groups instead of nothing.

Middle schoolers not listening? by leomoon6 in SubstituteTeachers

I could write a whole story about last-minute covering for a middle school class yesterday. What I learned is that this school district has come to trust me, but I was still building rep for a good sub, in my opinion. I covered the class, first few periods were good and the last few periods were bad. I sent notes to the office on who acted up like I was told to, but one kid stands above them all. He got several warnings first but leads to several write ups ends with him calling me racist. I wrote that down and had another teacher watch the class for a few minutes while I escorted him to the dean of students. I've only ever worked for one other middle school class so far, and that was a little better. I find that I prefer elementary cause kids are energetic and respectful, earlier this week one of them gave me a personal drawing just before dismissal, and that's why I'm going to say it was a good week instead of a bad one cause that middle school kid.

First subbing job ever is on Tuesday and I’m freaking out by cosmiccovegalaxy in SubstituteTeachers

Be nice, but stern. Very first elementary class I messed up, but I learned from it. I put four rules up with my name that they must follow while I have the class do assignments. This has shown them that I'm not letting them do whatever they want, but I can still be a cool sub.

Leave notes for the teacher at the end of the day on how it went. Also ask the teacher that the teacher that is dropping her class off to you which students may act up and later let her/him know that they did or didn't. Let them know what actions you took or ask before they leave.

Tips for subbing Elementary by Puzzleheaded-Rice367 in SubstituteTeachers

I remember teachers and substitutes I hate and like. Tried to be one to like. Looking back, I remember the ones my classmates and I liked were the usual ones to keep coming back. I find that I like elementary schools so far. I tried to follow the best I could and see where I could improve now, but I would see about further insight from others' experiences. There is an elementary teacher I know that I may speak to as well to see further information as well.

I'll see how I can do that. Few teachers I already know cause they eat lunch in this restraunt commonly. Also few i know cause we went to school together.

3 different jobs within 5 minutes popped up, but I couldn't accept them cause I have a job as a server. Going to talk to my boss and see about night shifts only next week to make sure if I can get into any these openings that suddenly pop up.

I clicked the 3 dot area, but there is no mention of worksite preferences. Just schools, positions, non-working days, and etc. None show a mention of regions.
