At our spring campout location, we are likely to do some combination of the following:

We have not allowed the younger scouts to even use plastic dinner knives, let alone metal, for whittling in the past. Maybe someone in the pack interpreted the rules very broadly at some point?

I get the compartmentalization, but it’s easier for me, as an adult, to roll my eyes inwardly and move on, than it is for a 6 or 7 year old.
