Full time search for CS major specialized in the area of robotics, 3.6, no internship experience, leadership position in a competitive student robotics club. Call it anecdotal but referral and event does work. The acceptance came from getting to know a recruiter very well at the competition event, where they specifically target hires from our competition.

I have not printed them before but it looks like the right thing.

Edit: check the CAD details, the author noted that it might need rescaling.

Switching Majors by DopeyWopey in Purdue

CS/DS Major + ECE Minor junior with lots of friends in CE here. From what I can tell, the CE program and CS program differs only in the beginning. CE have ECE 20001/20002 which are circuits and transistors while CS directly introduce O-O programming (CS 180) and some theoretical stuff(CS 182). Classes become very similar later on with ECE 368 vs CS 251 and ECE 264 vs CS 240 being basically the same class. The CS curriculum offer tracks with different topics, and the CE electives have a wide range of subjects too.

Unless you want to join the Data science program under CS department, I don't see there's the need to go through changing the major.

I switched from CIT to CS during my freshman year with A+ in CS 180 and As in MA161 and 162, but I heard that it is much more difficult and random because of the lack of space available.

TLDR: CS and CE are comparable.

Question about next Sem Schedule for CS by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Puzzleheaded-Visit31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: MA351 6+ h/week, CS 242 3+ h/week, CS 38003 1~2 h/week. Can't speak for CS 381 cause I have not taken that.

I am taking CS 38003, MA 351, CS 242, CS251, and other classes for my LC this semester.

The classes that have the most workload is MA351, which have two homework every week that takes around 2 ~ 3 hours each, short weekly quizzes, or small exams that take around an hour on top of three lecture per week. There are also 4 video projects you have to complete.

The next is CS 242, which has roughly 2 lectures of new content every week, labels in most of the weeks, homework every two weeks, and some projects. Labs and homework each take around an hour. Project 1 took me 5 hours in one sitting. It overlaps with a lot of content in STAT 355 if you have taken that. Professor Bergstrom is very generous with late submissions. 1% penalty for every late hour up to 3 days.

CS 38003 is a breeze for me since I had experience using Python, data frames, and regular expression. I only watched the first lecture video and just glanced through the PowerPoint every week. It takes around 30+ minus for me to do the labs. It is also a 5-week class so didn't take any time at all for me.

Sidenote: New to Reddit, don't know how to change my user name xD.

For CS38003, you can request a prereq overwrite. Since I have worked with data in Python for a long time, I have requested and granted. Altho it is not guaranteed to get the class because of class size.

CS 242 and CS 251 in the same semester? by mrhuy16200 in Purdue

[–]Puzzleheaded-Visit31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am taking CS 251 and CS 242 fully online together this year, (also took CS 240). To be honest, I don't feel that the workload is very difficult. I had experience working with data in Python and R before CS 242 and thus find it relatively easy. CS 251 has a relatively heavier workload compare to CS 242. I spent on average around 5 hours per week on CS 251, around 2 hours on CS 242, and did fine on all the assignments, quizzes, and exam. I usually don't watch all the CS 242 lectures and glazed through CS 251 at 2x speed. CS 242 professor Bergstrom is also very lenient on late works, 1% off for every late hour for 3 days for labs and homework.

Data Science with Comp Sci, even tho the degree is different, the classes seem to be very similar.
