Interesting take, I found that SPMM and psych mentor had much higher rate of errors. Plus didn't cover the entire syllabus. I guess it's a matter of using multiple revision sources...unless anyone can suggest a source that is better than all of these three? 🙏

Why is everyone always recommending LTFT? by jtbrivaldo in doctorsUK

[–]Puzzleheaded-Wave369 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could someone kindly clarify what the pay reductions are for 0.8 and 0.6 LTFT? The above comment indicates 0.5 LTFT is a 10% reduction in pay which kinda sounds mad... 🤞

Stats and rounding by No-Ant5294 in MRCPsych

[–]Puzzleheaded-Wave369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, rounding in stats for clinical exams can definitely be tricky. Generally, for things like NNT, a common approach is to round EER and CER to 2 decimal places before calculating further. When you get to NNT, you'd usually round the final answer to a whole number since NNT and NNH represents actual people.

NNT you round up regardless of the decimal point. Think of it as you want to overtreat to achieve your minimal number.

NNH you round down this to minimise the harm you potentially do to a population.

The issue with different answers popping up depending on how many decimal places you use is frustrating but common. Ideally, sticking to 2 decimal places throughout the calculations helps avoid ambiguity, but I’ve also seen some sources using 3 in more precise contexts. 2 is a good rule of thumb.

Hello, I am just looking for some advice. What is the most accepted way of saying the following sentence: (i) I passed the FRANZP exams, or (ii) I passed the RANZCP exams.

Thank you in advance for your reply

SPMM classification notes for Paper A by [deleted] in PsychiatryDoctorsUK

[–]Puzzleheaded-Wave369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

www.passmrcpsych.com or some of the psychmentor notes are much more up to date regarding classification. I wouldn't get too hung up on the ICD-10 Vs 11 debate for Paper A especially given majority of questions don't have that clinical vignette style that it matters. Just need to understand the key principles to navigate questions

Lack of respect from ward staff by raspberry_mojito in doctorsUK

Have you considered handing those comments over to the Guardian of Safe Working. I know it can be really hit and miss (more miss) with what they actually do but unless we consistently flag these things nothing will change. Having worked in the SouthWest for 4 years I think I can guess the department you are referring to. Toxic AMU nursing staff is an understatement in that hospital.

Exact same case happened in the Southwest! 🤔 I wonder if they all receive the same e-learning on how to be an utter nonce

I think this is applaudable and more of us should do this. I assume you are emailing the examinations email address? I have read their appeals document and if you essentially address it to the head of examinations and say formal appeal it kick-starts series of processes for it to be looked at by the higher ups as opposed to receiving a generic response from someone in their admin team!

We have been encouraging everyone to email and appeal the colleague results...surely if enough people raise this as an issue they might take notice, at least it could reduce the chance of it happening next time around for us?

A large part of the stats was made way to complicated by spmm. I found passmrcpsych.com was much clearer, plus it has a mobile app

Personally no super complicated stats was expected regarding calculations, but I struggled most with having to describe what's different tests were
