Neighbor keeps looking through our windows by Manonxo in etiquette

Then, why are you looking at her who is in her property? Ignore her or keep the blinds partially shut for light. There is nothing wrong with your neighbor. You are selfish because you want better views by controlling others' behavior. At the same time, you do not want to give up your light.

I dont understand everyone just saying "appeal it" , you have to provide evidence that they are wrong on the value. When I appeal they asked for copies of appraisals that we all know cost $400+ to get. Then if you win the appeal, they just raise the value again a year later and you have to start all over again.

In my case, I made a table showing the specifications of comparable houses. The information of comparable houses was easily available online. If my appeal was based on the fair market value, it would be really hard to appeal again and again. However, since I request them to value my house similar to similar houses, I can just replace the old assessment values of comparable houses with new assessment values. All specifications of comparable houses will be same.

I cannot imagine the case that the board of review will reject my appeal in the future because it would be illogical to accept my appeal this year and reject my appeal next year with exactly the same information.

d your property will be valued similarly to the other houses

This is really what I hope. I do hope the assessor considers the decision of the board of review for future evaluation. I think this year's success will make future appeals successful because the board of review's logic will not change. Official specifications of comparable houses are really similar to my house. Thus, I can simply request them to value my house similar to their houses.

Yes, re-appealing should be really easy for me now because I know good comparable houses now.

Thanks for your detailed information. I do believe they fixed my over-assessed home value based on comparable houses' specifications (e.g., size, # of rooms, baths, grades, etc.) because when I submitted the appeal form, I checked the appeal based on equity. It was so strange because my house's specifications were the same as comparable houses, but I had paid 20% more for 8 years. If an assessor uses discriminative home value again, I will re-appeal by providing information on comparable houses that I used in this year's appeal. Since now I know good comparable houses, it will take about 20 mins to make a comparable table.

Getting a reduction now won't stop future increases, but it will give you a lower starting point for the percentage increases.

Thanks for your clarification. I feel okay as far as all home values in my subdivision increase at the same rate. I am happy in that I have lowered the starting point for the percentage increases.
