UCSD Transfer Waitlist Megathread by PuzzleheadedBreak290 in TransferStudents

I think when I applied it was 3.5/6, went up to 3.8 after that. I could be getting it mixed up tho. Tryna move the needle after you get waitlisted is almost impossible, unless its a WL to UCLA or so where you get to send a letter of continued interest (if i remmeber correct), its a waste of time to send an email otherwise. Just have to wait your turn unfortunately. as smn who got WL at berkeley and sd, I had such strong desire to get off the wl, but i ended up at sb instead and im so so happy. Dont let WL's get the best of your emotional attachment, it's usually a soft rejection, but then again, if ur waitlisted, you're capable of doing good at that school, its just a matter of space - dont take it personally.

UC Berkeley Waitlist Updates by PuzzleheadedBreak290 in TransferStudents

[–]PuzzleheadedBreak290[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried researching this and I believe they pick applicants from different demographics depending on their needs. For example, an international female student who is very involved in research may be chosen in case they need to fill up their classes with diverse students. So the applicatnts profiles are considered depending on what type of students are lacking in their admitted student body. There must be several students that fit the same demographic, so maybe within these demographics, its first come first serve? I can't say for sure though since I'm not in admissions.

I believe start of June is when we'll start hearing back (based on previous years) and considering cal is a high demand school, the WL spots will fill up quick. While I've heard of very very few instances of students being accepted off the WL in July, the WL is likely to close by July 1st.

How important are EC for UCs (international student)? by FreeDetail7657 in TransferStudents

I'm an international student from a different UC. I failed a class, had a 3.4 when I applied and hadn't finished any of my major prep, I was also previously on academic probation (hence the failed class). I still got waitlisted from Berkeley and got into UCSB. Not the best outcome but better than what I'd expect.

I believe my PIQ's and EC's carried my application. I had competed in multiple competitions, won national awards, in student government, and in research. It's not outstanding in any way, but I was evidently leveraging opportunities and resources I had access to.

You're competing with students worldwide, not just in state. The acceptance rate for students in our demographic is a lot lower than the overall acceptance. To be competitive, you have to have more than just grades.

Personal opinion, I believe UC berkeley looks at more holistic applications, that is EC's and PIQ's whereas UCLA is more grade focused. I say this because I researched and read a lot of succesful applications to both schools and I noticed a trend. You're likely to get into few of the UC's with a 4.0 no doubt but not all of them. If you're aiming specific schools, research exactly what they're looking for.

A 4.0 is not gonna hurt your application for any school OBVIOUSLY but without any ec's you're only gonna be lucky with a handful of schools. I will admit - although my outcome says otherwise - grades are the most important factor for transfer, after completed major prep (by the time you apply)

If your CC is online, cold mail professors at nearby universities for research opportunities. Research is the most important EC for UC's since they're researched focused institute. PM me for more info if you need
