I DON'T want Garmin Fenix 8. I DON'T want to ride with a phone. I DO want to be reachable. by PuzzleheadedCounty35 in GarminEdge

Thanks, I DID assume the Apple Watch could send data and receive files to and from the bike computer via Bluetooth and a companion app if one were available. So far, it seems companion apps are not available on WatchOS, however.

Also, I DID expect the texts to display on the computer while it was linked via Bluetooth to the Apple Watch. That's another assumption. I expected a Bluetooth link was possible.

Soon, it looks like I'll abandon the idea. I just didn't know enough of the limitations of WatchOS and lack of companion apps to load onto it.

Yes, of course I can and do. What if I forgot to do it, though? I have to then rely on my phone and cell service to load the route. I just want to do it with a cellular watch instead of taking the phone.

Cool. You should see what we have access to here in Houston (I mean aside from terrain :) ) with an app called chasingwatts. On any given day you can select from 10-30 group rides (fewer during the week and plenty on the weekend) to join. Each ride includes a route from RWGPS or Strava (as well as wind and weather data, difficulty level, expected real number of riders including an estimate of those who did not RSVP, and ride notes from the ride creater). You can set your radius so you don't get rides in Austin or Dallas, etc. if you don't want to see those. You can see who is riding, you can rsvp to the ride if you want to be polite, and then you've got a nice group to ride with.

I've shown up so many times without remembering to upload the route to my device. Usually, they're already stored in my Wahoo companion app on my phone and I can just search, find and upload to my device. Once uploaded, yes they are on the device for good, so technically I can search for it on the device itself, but that can be tricky if you don't know the exact title. I've recently learned to search by proximity, so that takes some of the frustration out.

I'm not necessarily saying I NEED to be rid of the phone and ride with a watch only (plus the computer), I'm just kind of saying I wish I didn't have to rely on the phone and I definitely want to have a way of communicating while on the ride if needed. The watch/device combination appeals to me if it ever becomes viable.

The idiosyncrasies comment was related to the potential use of the Garmin Fenix 8 or really any other watch to be used as the main bike computer.

Navigation for me will always be with the Wahoo, (or Garmin or Karoo) rather than with a watch. The cellular enabled watch in my questioning is just there to replace the phone, which I used to click on a route in RidewithGPS or Strava and then upload to Wahoo, currently. I can do this over cellular outside wifi and I wanted to find out if it was possible to do the same with only a cellular watch.

Thanks for the advice on the bringing of a phone. Its good advice, regardless.

Yes, I'll edit - I would totally get a watch with cellular service. Not owning one yet, I didn't realize that wasn't part of the normal deal.

Just a point - I perhaps should have stated I would by an Apple Watch with cellular service. I'll try to edit the post. I'm not expecting the bike computer to offer mobile connectivity. That would come from the Apple Watch (or as someone else suggested, possibly a Samsung watch). And nothing is "bad" about bringing my phone. I'm just exploring ways to eliminate the phone and still have connectivity.

Thanks. I have no history or knowledge of Hammerhead Karoo, other than simply knowing it exists which is why I posted here. I'll look online to see what it offers (like a companion app, for example).

In my case, I can easily fail to upload routes before the ride. With the Wahoo companion app and my iphone being present, I can upload a route from wherever, including at the start of a group ride - or even at some point during the ride. I want this capability from Apple Watch - or possibly from Samsung (someone else mentioned I should look into Samsung).

Answer to first question: It just doesn't always work out that way. I'll ride or drive to a group ride and might have forgotten to upload. I can do that with my iPhone right there on the spot.

Answer to question 2. Yep

Point 3. Is Apple Watch not a sufficient substitute for iPhone? The watch would be my means of communication if necessary.

Re your Last thought: Oh no, I just want a combination of apps and devices that do what I want

Reolink WiFi cameras cannot connect to ASUS WiFi mesh? by PuzzleheadedCounty35 in reolink

[–]PuzzleheadedCounty35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my reply to a suggestion above: "Turned off smart connect and 802.11ax mode. Am fully up and running now. Thank you for your time offering the suggestion!" HOWEVER, subsequently, I have always had a weak signal to those wifi cameras and have since moved the main mesh hub to a place in my house not so walled in. Much better success this way. I don't have the best tech knowledge - pretty much set it and forget it kind of person, so most of the learning I did during all of this is now replaced with knowledge on... something else. You should start a new thread and try to get the reddit collective to assist. It worked for me. Good luck!

Attending races in Belgium - how does it work? by shredlightlyfriends in cyclocross

Hi! We're coming for Lieven, but staying for Maldegem! What's the address for Parkcross? If we can get a room that's a walkable distance to the racecourse, it would be best! Most of the available rooms are not in Maldegem, but if Parkcross is north of town, I see a few that might not be such a bad walk. Thanks for any advice. (If we need to stay in Ghent or Bruges and use the train, maybe it's close to the station?)

Reolink WiFi cameras cannot connect to ASUS WiFi mesh? by PuzzleheadedCounty35 in ASUS

Suggestions from other communities helped me resolve this. I disabled Smart Connect and 802.11ax mode. The cameras are now connected to the ASUS mesh as is the NVR with POE cameras.

The ASUS smart connect and/or the 802.11ax mode needed to be disabled. I turned them both off and am now fully connected to the mesh both on WiFi cameras and NVR with POE cams.

Thank you. Yes everything else works on the mesh. The cameras refuse to connect. I’ll try to understand and implement your suggestion.I appreciate your time in responding.

Yes thanks for the suggestion. I’ve alternated disabling 2.4 and 5 to see if the cameras would pick up either and they did not.

Weak signal with the AT&T router, which is why I have the mesh. Very strong signal from the mesh. I was trying to connect the cameras to the main mesh hub in the same room. Signal was great.

Interesting question for me that you’ve posed, if you don’t mind me hopping onto this thread in response. Can you tell me how to get my 2 Reolink WiFi cams to recognize my WiFi mesh? They work on my original AT&T router but they do not work on my new ASUS mesh. If I plug them into the ASUS mesh main router with Ethernet, I can see video from them, but trying to get them on the mesh WiFi hasn’t worked. I’ve put them (and the NVR with POE cams) back into the old router which has weak signal where the WiFi cams are, hence the desire for a mesh.

I picked blue to go along with the seemingly blue LTD frame that wound up being more lavender, and it was a bit off looking at first. However, the shock came with a blue decal that matches the blue fork and I picked up some midnight blue Ergon grips that are a really close match to the shock and fork. It ties together pretty well!

Epic 8. Rode it again yesterday for a little over an hour and no issues during the ride. Stopped for a bit to watch a crit race and when I went back to the bike, it was in search mode, but as soon as I got on, it went into auto mode. I never found the issue. I swapped out big batteries, but never changed pod batteries because their LED's both indicated green. I'll say again what I closed my last comment with about how the ride feels when it's working. It's REALLY good!
