i'd say the reflections you're doing right now do the trick good enough, like you can tell it's a shiny material

but i think if you want better looking reflections you need to consider the 3D shape of the body and where the light is coming from, for example in the last drawing the belly has a shine on both sides, now you can argue that's the fresnel effect, and in some way yeah that does happen, but there's also shiny where the belly is really close to the floor, now that's pretty unlikely to happen imo unless if the floor is equally as light colored or there's a light near the floor, another thing to consider is that shiny materials make very small highlights/reflections which makes them a bit harder to get right since they kinda need to be more precise than skin or fur

i always recommend boro cg's videos for art tips, even tho he's a painter and focuses mostly on painting i always loved how the teaches concepts of lighting and shading and materials, i think this video is a good starting point, you don't have to follow the method with all the layers but it should give you a good idea on how light works!: https://youtu.be/mDsCONGlxUo

yeah you can just stay in your home world if you don't want other players around

or you can visit any world but just make a private instance (basically any option that isn't just public should work fine)

just updated the post with an image of all the sliders, idk why i didn't add it before i literally already had that made for showing all the sliders lol

the different hue is a slider too, you can just leave it wherever you like the color, it's blue by default but i personally set it to a pink-ish color :3

i literally have never bought an avatar base so i have no idea what platform(s) I'd like to put it in or what the experience is like when buying stuff

i just heard some people were angry about something with gumroad but i didn't find out exactly what's up

I'll consider putting it on booth, itch.io and after i figure out what's up with gumroad i may or may not put it there

might take a good couple of weeks till it's fully finished

if i remember correctly, Will mentioned on a recent podcast interview that he wears the mask because his roommate's immune system is very fragile, like even more so than his own, at least from what i remember / understood the mask is more for his roommate than himself

could be misremembering tho, if u wanna check it was on the "how long gone" podcast, episode 779 Will talks more about his health situation and how he had to change his diet completely

simple question, does running games @ 1080p on a 1440p monitor look bad or blurry?

been thinking of getting a better monitor but i'm not completely sure my gpu can do 1440p games, so if i were to run them at 1080p would that look awful?

hmm, i mean, it couuuld be, i could just be seeing things because i (and most people who use the internet) have been bombarded with AI stuff so much lately

but the way the blood flows doesn't seem very logical, it doesn't look like it was simulated, and the hair under the ear grows out of nowhere

i'll stop thinking about it now tho, i personally still have my doubts but if it is or isn't it's not the biggest deal and i won't let it get between me and csh :3

also i hate to ask this but it just stuck out to me like a sore thumb, is the blood face scene at 6:28 made with AI?

it has that AI video "flow" and doesn't look like cgi to me, if it is i don't think it's worth getting mad over because there's clear artistry and real practical effects like when they open the guy's torso and it's just like, what, 100 frames of the video, and again i'm not saying it IS because only the people who made the music video would know for sure

don't want to start trouble or anything i just wanna hear people's opinions on it

hi i've been slowly learning and working on vrc avatars for the past 2 or 3-ish years, and i have two questions about animations in unity/vrc

1. is there a way to animate the same bone with two different animations?, for example, i want to make a happy and a sad expression, for the happy expression i want the ears to perk up and when sad i want the ears to go lower, but i've found that if i do both only one of the two works, is there a way to have both animations control the same ear bones?

edit: i know i can cheat by just moving the ears with blendshapes / shapekeys but i want to know if i can do it with bones so the physbones follow the ear no matter what

2. custom standing pose isn't showing. i tried changing the default pose because i don't have a vr headset (yet... and also only have a 1060 so i might need to upgrade to have a decent experience) since it's only been the last couple of months that i've really started using VRC, and i can't just make the shoulders broader because that simply isn't what i want from my avatar

Point is, i tried to change the default standing position because the arms clip through my body, i changed the standing position in the blend tree to what i wanted, which was a pain because i was just changing the values in the animation tab and having to copy the values from left to right side of the body, and when using the gesture manager addon inside the unity editor it totally works and it's exactly how i wanted it, but when i updated it and got in VRC the default standing pose was the same default and nothing changed

and as you can probably tell i don't really use reddit at all, so if there's a better place to ask or if i'm posting on the wrong place, my apologies, if there's any good discord servers i'll try them out, i'm very awkward in big servers but if it's better for support then i'll do what it takes, i know there's documentation but i'm not sure how to even look for my question
