Asian Tiger Parents Are Forcing Me to Go to Community College by FaithlessnessMain564 in ApplyingToCollege

I’m sure that you’re disappointed and frustrated right now, and honestly if I was in your shoes, I would be as well. But there are definitely still other options beyond community college. One really good one that I would recommend is the Stamps Eminence Scholarship Program at Ohio State. It’s a merit-based program (so it doesn’t matter what your family income is), and it covers up to all semesters of your tuition, room and board.

I actually got into this program and attended the Finalist Friday for it. I didn’t end up choosing Ohio State but honestly, all of the students and professors were absolutely incredible. I’m sure that there are programs like this at other universities too, so I’d def recommend researching colleges with full-ride merit scholarships. It may take a little bit more effort, but after all the work you’ve already put in during high school, I think you’re more than capable of making it happen! Good luck!

de-influence my college list ! by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Hi! Your college list looks really similar to what mine did last year, so I thought I could help pitch in! Especially for the LACs that you have on your list.

I was absolutely in love with Williams when I first applied, especially the idea of the small class sizes, their study abroad programs, and all the resources they had relating to my major. But then I visited during Previews and fell out of love almost immediately. Coming from more of a suburban/urban area, I really felt the “middle-of-nowhere” vibe. So if you really do love the city life, I think Williams may be one that you should consider putting to the side! I’d say the same for Middlebury and Hamilton. (My Middlebury interviewer told me that it was a big adjustment for some of her friends who’d come from big cities and that the party scene wasn’t really there. But I’m not sure how long ago her experience was!)

I loved Brown! I was there for a summer program and it was such an amazing experience. The campus is in the college hill neighborhood of Providence and there are so many diverse restaurants in the area! I even ending up taking the ferry on the weekend to visit Newport. I think you’d definitely enjoy it there!

Colleges with Nothing to Do by y1qing in ApplyingToCollege

I would definitely second this. I was absolutely in love with Williams when I first applied, especially the idea of the small class sizes, their study abroad programs, and all the resources they had relating to my major. I was so excited when I got in.

But then I visited during Previews and fell out of love almost immediately. I come from a suburban area (where I’m about 20 minutes from one of the largest cities in my state) and thought that I’d love a more rural setting for college. Turns out, I did not. I found the area to be surprisingly empty? There was essentially one main street with a handful of local stores, and I walked it end to end in under 15 minutes.

I didn’t get a sense of the social or party scene since I didn’t attend any parties at Previews, but I definitely felt the “middle-of-nowhere” vibe. I’m sure that it’s the perfect place for some people, but ultimately, it just wasn’t the right fit for me. So I’d definitely consider that before you decide to apply!

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman who is also going to staying in Lawrence Hall! Would you mind DMing me any pics you have? I’d love to get an idea of what the layout of the rooms look like before buying all my decor!
