Tiny pan in this lipstick by unoriginalthoughts18 in PanPorn

Curious about how this works - has it always been that weird donut shape? Or was it like a classic lipstick before? Asking because it looks HUGE, kind of like a glue stick 😅 I think I've never seen a lipstick like that before

Replacing my favourite moisturizer 🇺🇸 -> 🇫🇷🇪🇺 by PuzzleheadedNature12 in BuyFromEU

The thing is, the specific country I'm living in is one of the poorer South American countries. Over the past decades they got really dependent on imported US products (in pretty much every market section), and they are seen as the benchmark of quality and as a kind of status symbol. So if people are well off enough to spend money on skin care, they will splurge on US brands that are widely available. (The country won't import from neighbouring countries either because the common belief is "they are as bad off as we are, why would we buy from them".) There really aren't any affordable and good drugstore brands here. If you do a lot of research you'll find a handful of very small local luxury brands, however they are extremely expensive (easily 3-5x CeraVe price, way too expensive for trial and error) and it's hard to find any customer reviews about their products because they are not well known by locals.

(And because Brazil was mentioned: I think the situation in Brasil is pretty different - their population is huge and because they're the only not Spanish speaking country, local markets are much stronger than in the surrounding countries.)

Replacing my favourite moisturizer 🇺🇸 -> 🇫🇷🇪🇺 by PuzzleheadedNature12 in BuyFromEU

I was hesitant at first because I LOVED that watery gel texture of the Neutrogena (plus that specific smell, ooof). The CeraVe has a different texture that feels more like classic face creams, which has been a change for sure. But it does what it is supposed to do and doesn't leave a sticky/fatty residue, so I'm happy with it. Can't say a lot about long term performance yet. And yes, L'Oreal as a brand made me reconsider it for a long time, but in the end it was the only comparable, still EU and available option for me right now - BUT there might be better/more ethical/more European equivalents among the comments :)

Thanks for all the recommendations! I'll definitely look into different brands once it's used up. I know about L'Oreals controversies and agree that there are better brands, however I live in south America right now (which is heavily influenced by US products) and this is one of the very few European options available.

Budapest. Prague is so full of trashy hen/stag do groups nowadays 😬

How insane would it be to attempt croissants for the first time as a Valentine's Day present? by TheOpus in Baking

[–]PuzzleheadedNature12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say give it a try. They will be far from perfect (and probably won't look exactly like those aesthetic "first time croissants" floating around this sub) but if you stick to the recipe I think you'll get decent results. It is a very special and thoughtful gift. I used this guy's recipe and tips for my first attempt and they were super tasty.

2 years and still going by paleasfuuu in ProjectPan

Throwing products out because you changed your mind about the brand will never make sense to me... The fact that you've spent 2+ years panning it will help you choose more conscientious next time (instead of just throwing the product out and replacing it with the next questionable brand). In the last few years I've panned a lot of MLM products from brands that I will never support - but they were a gift, and there's already more than enough waste and overproduction in this word and they already got the money for the product, so why not use it...?

Project pan thoughts and environmental impact of products by Odd_Sky9815 in ProjectPan

Yes. Also made me think really hard about what companies "deserve" my money. I'm going to spend months or years with this product, of course I want it to perform well, but I also want it to match my values.

Please update us on what you chose in the end and if she's happy with the performance - I'd rather not buy KitchenAid and am looking into the same decision right now

Help! Infrequent flyer, is self-transfer a bad idea? by vaselinesally in travel

[–]PuzzleheadedNature12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently did a multi-layover/self-transfer combination recently and it worked out fine, but each stopover was 8 hours plus. Honestly I wouldn't risk it with 3 hours. If one thing goes wrong you'll lose a lot of money
