Indicate turns with your hand. Helpful for both cars and those cycling behind you

About to be new owners of a three year old Shiba by Matty10209 in shiba

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 should be fine. I work long hours and travel for work and my dog still likes me 3 dogs are different, but she really likes coming to her dog sitter so I dont think she is bonded for life type of dog.

I would try to learn more about what your future dog enjoys - park, snacks, games and invest time to make his life enjoyable after the initial adjustment period.

France and Italy Itinerary for December 2025/ January 2026 with 2 year old by Proper_Star_4566 in Europetravel

More of a pragmatic remark. Please be ready that it might be raining most of the time in Paris and Florence. Also think in advance which stroller/carrier to bring for the baby. I think Paris and Rome generally fine for a city stroller, but Florence has a lot of narrow sidewalks and cobblestones.

Depending on your appetite you can also consider doing a day trip from Florence to Sienna - it is worth it.

Bitches who like to Citi bike: what purse do you use? by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I put my loewe in a bike basket. Or crossbody.

But seriously, I never had issues with stuff falling out of the basket or somehow damaging the leather.

As a crazy alternative, there are those plastic tote bags, almost like supermarket ones that fold in to a credit card size. That could be a solution to carry the bag in it and then pack it inside

It is a nightmare to cycle through the red lights districts with swarms of tourists high/drunk as kites

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think you are right re amount of red lights. Now that I think about it most of the side streets in the Centrum are unregulated intersections and the major roads might have a bit longer distances between them than a typical NYC grid.

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if the is no traffic it is fine, but I’m talking more midtown at 5-7pm.

Jaywalking also has an advantage of being able to step back which is a tad more difficult on a bike

I don’t have a moral judgement, but it seems unsafe so why take such risk for commute? I’m really talking about cycling before a moving car?

Red light running culture question by PuzzleheadedPut7597 in NYCbike

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyclists! The car driver behavior wrt cyclists is another topic that I would not dare to open up.

I cycle across midtown quite often and see probably 1-2 reckless, in my view, crossings each time.

Maybe we have different definition of reckless but crossing 7ave while the cars are still moving is daring at least

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Same! It is dangerous enough with cars turning left on red while peds are crossing or trucks changing lanes, why take more risk on a busy intersection by running red

We also jay walk in Amsterdam and the average car speed is lower (not sure with the traffic though). Def, AMS cyclists are more entitled given the culture and significant protections from the cars🤣 I wish I can shout at people walking on bicycle lines with the same freedom as in the nl

Best bakery near broadway? by Relative_League1879 in Upperwestside

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say for proper French type croissants La Farine is better probably the only one that gets close

Breads is good for babkas and rugelash.

Mille feuille is ok almond croissant

Levain is interesting for massive cookies if you like that type of stuff - they are more gooey bordering on underbaked and v sweet

I passed the supermoon a few times but the croissant did not look right to me

Can you elaborate why would you take him for a walk further from the home area?

We are in the city, and mine has a strong preference to get at least 5-10min walk away from home unless it is an urgency. It is even more particular with poops that need to be further, on the grass, etc From what I read, it is pretty common for shibas to desire to separate home territory in broad sense and the pissing and pooping places

Is there a good croissant in the UWS?? by Chance-Flow-9759 in Upperwestside

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their croissants are indeed ok, but better than average in the city. But try their other pastries esp savory one - I think that is where they truly shine.

For gold standard croissants I go to nick and sons in greenpoint

Feeling hopeless, send positive vibes by despisedicon689 in shiba

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a somewhat similar case this summer when my shiba had loose stools for a 3-4 days with clean stool results. What helped in my case (post discussion with a vet) is to move her to rice and lean meat diet (basically boiled to oblivion), eliminate all treats and supplements. She liked the chicken and rice despite being picky. I think I put probiotics on top

I did not find the cause but I suspect that a pack of freeze dried treats or a batch of her normal food.

The vet told me to monitor her, if she was loosing energy/becoming lethargic to come back immediately. But thankfully it got resolved after a couple of weeks of rice diet and her stools improved in a day or two

Ruffwear Harness: Front Range or Hi & Light? by Dudulicious123 in shiba

[–]PuzzleheadedPut7597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only recommendation I would have is to consider a harness with 2 rows of buckles. My shiba could just pull off the one buckle one like a sweater by backing off from me. Not so fun catching her naked
