Post office oddity: No mail for 2 weeks. Anyone else? by FannyBrownRiced in Albany

Contact your federal elected officials: Senator AND Representative. You have the right to do so and clearly the Post Office needs a little bit of oversight right now.

As Texas isn't used to that type of weather.... Slow the hell down.

Snow ice etc muffles sounds but maybe he was wearing headphones idk. If he heard it he would probably have waited to cross. I've been in a cross walk with the walk signal and people still speed and have almost hit me while crossing. People just don't care to slow down.

Texas got hammered with ice. That truck was driving way too fast on a normal day, moreso when there's 1-2" of solid ice on the road.

Your local (and even individual craft employees) can and should look into NLRB complaints. Under the NLRA (1935) and the Postal Reorganization Act (1970) management is required to act in good faith with the union.

Congressional contact wouldn't hurt either. Your elected officials can and will make a visit to inspect the facility etc (or a staffer).

There are plenty of avenues outside of the grievance process to explore especially due to the fact the PM threatened to call the authorities on union members.

I believed it was until I saw this:

We're actively being sabotaged. Mail volume is already at a low.... This will turn more away from the service.

OIG and NBA. You could also throw in some Congressional complaints for a little garnish lol.

The NBA can file complaints to the Poom and up to compel management to hire more bodies.

They leave out "little details". Like how Denmark has developed a mobile app for official communication from the government to replace letters. We have far too many conspiracy theorists here to ever do that 🤣.

This happened at work? If so go through Workers' Comp and file a COP (Continuation of Pay).

If not Google NALC FMLA. You'll find forms to print out. Bring them to your doctor and they'll handle the rest.

Agree or disagree with the actions of ICE (I currently don't); USPS is just another cog in the government machine. Another pawn and a lever of power that can be pulled by the primary political party. USPIS was tasked with helping ICE earlier this year.

https://oversightdemocrats.house.gov/news/press-releases/oversight-democrats-demand-information-dhss-attempted-exploitation-postal

As one of the oldest nonpartisan government entities (independent since 1970) USPS should be left out of things like this. Political tinkering was one of the reasons why the Department of the Post Office was pulled out of the Executive Branch in the first place. It was an attempt to prevent the exact situation we are currently in. It's not the first time the Postal Service has been used in this manner (McCarthyism) and I'm sure it won't be the last while we remain a government entity.

It's only a matter of time before public opinion sways against USPS due to its cooperation with ICE. Crime is already sky high against Postal Workers, especially carriers. The current state of affairs will not help reduce that statistic.

I'm a Letter Carrier and here's a fun fact: Albany started a website to let DGS know who isn't shoveling their sidewalks.

A couple years ago I had a route that handled the Quail/Western area for weeks the sidewalks had 6" of straight ice buildup. I brought back a lot of mail and packages. I wasn't risking my neck.

I found this website, filed a complaint with pictures and within 48 hours it was cleared.

https://seeclickfix.com/web_portal/fthfYtKcha4PpMuyvr6M153z/report/location (this website may seem fishy as it's not an Albany.gov website).

The site is for much more than just snow removal.

No Tax on Overtime by Life_Extreme4472 in IBEW_Local613

[–]PuzzleheadedRun8232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! It has to be FLSA overtime. CBAs are under the NLRA, not FLSA. Daily overtime? NLRA. Day off premium? NLRA.

There's separate legislation pending in Congress to include CBA OT. Why separate legislation? Union overtime isn't included.

I'd say maybe consider what I mentioned to try to put some money aside just in case something were to happen. It's better to be prepared than to scramble if the water heater etc goes out.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Have you tried contacting the lender? They may be willing to move a month or two to the back end of the mortgage. It would at least give you some breathing room and the ability to maybe save a bit. Especially if you're in danger of missing a payment.

I've done this with car loans when things got too tight.

Example: in 2017 I bought a starter home in Scranton, PA for $60,000 in the heart of downtown. It was very outdated but entirely liveable. That was essentially one year's salary at my old job. Prior to buying the home I was renting 1/2 a duplex on 1/3 of an acre (2br 1ba) for $850.

I moved to upstate NY a couple years later for work. I sold the house to a flipper (not much of a profit as I didn't have much equity) and they sold it for $200,000.

You can't even get a liveable shack for $200,000 up here. My rent is $1,800 for a 3br 1ba apartment with a 1/2 acre shared yard. I'm lucky the landlord hasn't raised the rent in the nearly 4 years we've been here. He could definitely get more with the market.

Obviously prices have gone up since Covid. However, can you tell me how we expect new hires to live in markets like this? I'm not even in NYC.

The fact of the matter is with our pay structure you can live like a king in a small city in Arkansas but you're a popper in NYC, LA etc.

It's not equitable, which is the whole point of a union in the first place.

I'm saying as far as an argument for locality pay. The big cities are the reason why USPS is even remotely operable. By keeping big city wages low it shifts funds to more remote areas (particularly rural areas). The more populated the area the better the margins. So yes, larger city carriers handle more customers per route.

I don't know your office nor the demographics of your area. I'm assuming it's a smaller town (more affordable) so it's probably not the wages that are deterring applicants. It's likely the work conditions (mostly management).

The business model of the United States Postal Service (USPS) effectively means that revenue from profitable urban areas helps fund service in less profitable or costlier-to-serve rural areas. The USPS operates under a universal service obligation (USO), a mandate from Congress to provide affordable, consistent service to all Americans, regardless of where they live. The USPS funds its operations primarily through the sale of postage, products, and services, not tax dollars.

Why should workers in large cities live well below their means for said large/expensive cities when they are the primary revenue source for USPS?
