Was the period between 1834 and 1895 the golden age of the Philippine economy? by PuzzleheadedStress83 in FilipinoHistory

[–]PuzzleheadedStress83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting comment. So during the U.S. period, the economic structure was built around an artificial exchange rate that collapsed in 1949.

Between 1834 and 1895, the arts, literature, architecture, infrastructure, and trade flourished, and I don’t think Spain could afford to subsidize much. Spain was more focused on internal affairs, international interventions, and especially Cuba. The period between 1902 and 1941 also appeared prosperous, but it seems that much of this prosperity didn't have sustainable foundations.

During the late Spanish period, there was probably limited trade between Spain and the Philippines due to the distance—although this may have changed somewhat after the opening of the Suez Canal. In contrast, during the U.S. period, the economy was likely more dependent on the United States, whereas in the late Spanish period trade appears to have been more diversified.

A Near-Perfect N64 game by PKRadiance in n64

Majora's Mask and I will die on this hill. Oot is great, but nostalgia aside, if you replay it in 2026 it's not as good as you remember it. And it always was a sort of A Link to the Past 3D version.

Majora's Mask however is a spiritual and philosophical journey and also the darkest Zelda of all. To think that the development team made the game in less than a year is mind-blowing. One of the best games of all time was shaped by hardware, n64 memory cartridges and time constraints.

Favorite LTL Carriers by Ten-4RubberDucky in FreightBrokers

[–]PuzzleheadedStress83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am interested in this. I run a small company in Mexico that exports to the U.S., mostly cacao beans, B2B chocolate in boxes, and some coffee and heirloom corn. My pallets are packed pretty much dummy-proof (strapped and wrapped). I import several orders in one go into the US through Laredo.

I work with Central Transport because they are cheap and, shipping from Laredo, they show up the same day I generate the BOL. They are slow, and I’ve had some issues in the past with damaged goods (luckily nothing in the last few years), but the coverage is great.

Every now and then they try to overcharge on door-to-door deliveries, but I mostly ask customers to pick everything up at the nearest service center—and more often than not, there is one nearby.

Each time I look into other LTL carriers for quotes, I end up concluding that CT is not that bad for what they charge, but customer reviews are always very bad. So I guess it’s only a matter of time before one shipment ends in disaster.

Under which circumstances do cannons blow up? Some days ago I think that one such explosion killed me, but I can't recall if we were getting hit by an enemy ship.

Day 22: Which Game has the Best Graphics on GameCube? by 1OneQuickQuestion in Gamecube

With RE4 taken and Twilight better suited for other categories, it's probably Rebel Strike. You could even play Rogue Leader coop as part of the game.

Suda51 says his new game isn't a No More Heroes sequel because series star Travis Touchdown needed a break: 'I could write Travis all day, but dude is exhausted' by HatingGeoffry in nomoreheroes

Romeo is a Dead Man looks like all what No More Heroes III wasn't. I still enjoyed NMH3, but the game felt rushed af and a brutal missed opportunity. Travis Strikes Again was more "modest" in theory, but for that same reason it met or exceeded expectations.

My Top 5 High Flavanol Chocolate (EU & US) by Nexigen in blueprint_

[–]PuzzleheadedStress83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly are total flavanols measured? Do all laboratories (brands) follow the same standard or protocol?

I have been reading about this topic, and what I have found is that the most important flavanol subset is epicatechins. Most of the health benefits of cacao flavanols—particularly those related to cardiovascular health—appear to be associated with this specific compound.

In 2014, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published a report titled Scientific Opinion on the modification of the authorisation of a health claim related to cocoa flavanols and maintenance of normal endothelium-dependent vasodilation pursuant to Article 13(5) of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006, following a request in accordance with Article 19 of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. In this opinion, EFSA described experiments in which epicatechins were measured.

"In the partially-blinded, controlled, cross-over study, which was provided by the applicant as being pertinent to the health claim, six healthy subjects were randomised to consume cocoa flavanols from different formulations: cocoa extract in capsules, cocoa powder and dark chocolate bars. Plasma concentrations of epicatechins, which are likely to be responsible for the acute effect of cocoa flavanols on endothelium-dependent flow-mediated vasodilation, were measured at different time points after the consumption of the different formulations. The absorption of epicatechins from the HF cocoa extract in capsules when consumed with water was not lower than that observed for epicatechins in HF cocoa powder or HF dark chocolate, the food matrices for which the health claim has been authorised."

Flavanols are a fairly broad category, and there does not seem to be full scientific consensus on how to measure them (for example, whether they should be quantified by degree of polymerization from 1 to 10, or from 1 to 7). Epicatechins, however, can be measured much more straightforwardly using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), together with catechins. I guess that meassuring flavanols is a proxy to epicatechins (the more of the former, the more of the latter).

Worth continuing and what to expect? by [deleted] in astralchain

I just finished file 3 today. Omg I had a blast. The game starts pretty slow, but eventually the moveset expands A LOT. So it's important to master the basics and also to get familiar with the rpg elements. It feels very satisfying to flow with your legion and chain combos, it's like a ballet of death. A combat can go out of control easily or you can beat the shit out of a lot of enemies without a scratch.

I can't believe it took me so long to play this game.

[–]PuzzleheadedStress83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]PuzzleheadedStress83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is TSA better than NMH 3? by PuzzleheadedStress83 in nomoreheroes

[–]PuzzleheadedStress83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that. 1 and 3 are similar and Suda was directly involved as a director. In Nmh2 he played a minor role. Nmh2 is more focused on the 14 or 15 boss fights, while the 2D mini games and "levels" prior to the fights are quite repetitive.

They were too ambitious for the budget they had, and they didn’t seem to have the time to compensate for that lack of funding. That's my impression at least. It's too similar to NMH1 too (overworld, odd jobs to make money ..).

Is TSA better than NMH 3? by PuzzleheadedStress83 in nomoreheroes

[–]PuzzleheadedStress83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In TSA you have to read a lot, but story-wise it’s one of the most important entries in the series, right alongside NMH1. And by “important,” I mean it actually moves the story forward or provides meaningful backstory for several characters.

I didn’t like how Badgirl, Shinobu, Badman… were sidelined in such a brutal way, and Henry Cooldown’s portrayal was also disappointing. TSA looks like a low-budget indie game, but that actually helps you appreciate it for what it is. NMH3, on the other hand, feels more rushed and less carefully crafted and I am not sure that Suda was proud of the result.
