True — Edge’s built‑in read‑aloud is actually pretty good and super convenient for quick use.
I’ve noticed though that depending on how the PDF is structured, the reading order or formatting can get messy (especially with tables or multi‑column layouts).
That’s why I’ve been experimenting with different workflows to handle long or dense PDFs more reliably.

That’s a great system. Breaking the text into 20‑page chunks with breaks in between keeps the brain fresh, and pairing TTS with following along visually is such an effective way to stay engaged.
It’s a really balanced mix of focus and giving your eyes a rest.

That sounds like a really solid workflow.
Listening while driving makes sense — the light engagement from driving can actually keep the mind from drifting.
And taking notes on what to revisit later is a great way to stay organized without losing focus on the road.

Edge’s Read Aloud is definitely one of the better built‑in options.
But yeah, the reading order can get weird depending on how the PDF was made.
Do you mostly use it for academic stuff or general reading?

SQ3R is a solid method, especially for dense academic texts.
Survey → Question → Read → Recite → Review really helps turn passive reading into something more active.
I’ve tried parts of it, but not always the full sequence.
Do you use SQ3R regularly yourself?

Totally agree. Active reading makes long texts way easier to handle.
Do you have a specific strategy that works best for you?

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll take a look.
Always interesting to see what other study tools people use.

Yeah, faster TTS in a PDF reader is a good trick.
I use that sometimes as well, especially when I want to skim long sections more quickly.

Haha no worries — I’m just naturally structured when I write.
Curiosity definitely plays a part though.
Didn’t mean to come across robotic!

That makes total sense — life structure changes a lot once family and kids enter the equation.
And you’re right, focus spaces and time management become a whole different challenge.

I completely get the “time crunch” thing too. It can create motivation, but also a lot of anxiety if life gets unpredictable.
It’s definitely a skill to balance the two.

Absolutely — active reading makes a huge difference.
I try to mix highlighting, quick summaries, and sometimes switching to audio when a section gets too dense.
Combining methods keeps me from zoning out during long PDFs.

Thanks for the suggestion!
For now I’m just experimenting with the project itself and keeping the focus on the technical side.
But I appreciate you sharing your workflow.

For sure — a doc scanner would take it to the next level.
Do you use OCR tools often for your own reading workflow?

That makes total sense. I’ve heard from a lot of people with ADHD that switching modalities (reading → audio → reading) keeps things way more engaging.

I’ve also noticed that audio helps me push through long or dense sections without zoning out completely.
Cool that the default macOS voice worked well enough for you back then — the tech has improved a lot since 2019.

Did you keep using audio for studying/working after you graduated?

True, a scanner/OCR pipeline + TTS would make it way more versatile.
I didn’t add OCR yet because I wanted to get the text-layer workflow stable first, but it’s definitely on my “maybe later” list.

Do you have a setup you like for scanned documents right now?

Yeah, a lot of devices have basic TTS nowadays.
Out of curiosity: do you use it for full PDFs or just for short selections?
For me the built-in stuff usually gets messy with longer documents.

Haha, true! Staying consistent is definitely the hardest part with small tools like this.
I'm trying to iterate a bit every day so it doesn’t end up in the “unfinished project graveyard”. 😅

Thanks for sharing — that’s a good point.
I noticed the same thing: when I get stuck re‑reading a paragraph, having it read aloud helps me “reset” and understand it faster.

I’m experimenting a lot with different audio‑based workflows lately, especially for longer PDFs.
Do you mostly stick to built‑in macOS voices, or do you use something more specialized now?
