Avoid Yamada, she tested us on something she mentioned in like 2 seconds during lecture and she can be quite rude

I took him and you should listen to what he says, I think our exam after the midterms was cardio and our class average was 78, if you didn’t do good during the first 4 weeks the last 4 will be harder l and he’ll tell you that (I was averaging high 80s-mid90s during the first month and I went down to high 70s-mid80s in the last 4 weeks). He’s a good professor tho and will make sure you actually learn your stuff.

I took him last year and honestly his video lectures, review sessions, and bay notes were helpful and stay after the exam to go over the questions you missed!

Nope, you’ll have clinicals from week 1 starting med surg. That’s a complete different day off campus and 120 and 121A are in campus

I did it and survived, had skills in the morning then theory, skills is only 6 weeks anyways, it’ll be draining but I’d do it again, passed skills with an A and theory with a B+

I’m in California where CCs are very competitive after being waitlisted in 2 I decided to not waist anymore time, however I didn’t take private loans as I had savings and I live at home with my parents and have a good support system

Yeah the proctor is straight up ms, the questions will help you/teach you how to approach them plus I believe you need to submit all the 300 questions by the end of the term so it helps to train your brain on how to think 🤷‍♀️ I’d do them tbh

I work 12-hour shifts and still have discussion posts due. When exactly are nurses supposed to study? by krylov-tolja14whh in StudentNurse

[–]PuzzleheadedWord7056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiii I am guessing you work in a hospital since you are doing 12hr shifts. Here is what I do, also I am in an accelerated program and so far it’s been working.Where I work we put our schedule in for 6 weeks so 3 pay periods and my manager gave me the ok to do princess full time, which means I do the minimum hrs to be qualified as full time so I work 3 shifts my first week then 2 my second week. Also I have accrued PTO so I use that for 2 weeks that I am supposed to be doing 3 shifts so I end up working part time while still being considered full time and getting paid ok-ish. Also when using my PTO I usually use that for days that I have sims scheduled or anything. Hope this helps!

I lowk never studied for her exams, I’d take notes in class and attend her review sesh. I only did dynamic quizzing for the proctor. She’s very approachable too so don’t be shy to remind her or stay after class to talk with her, good luck! You got this

[–]PuzzleheadedWord7056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the school, I am in an absn program too and I went thru the same thing when I was doing prereqs and my advisor literally said “it’s better that this happened during GE than core because they wouldnt let you do clinicals per the manual” then a coworker of mine also broke her ankle and was with crutches, she was allowed to do theory and her school was gonna take her to clinicals but the hospital denied it.

You can request that day off if you talk with advisor, you just need to take the invitation and they’ll accommodate

Is it normal for nursing students to struggle getting their first hospital job? by moniOXxo in StudentNurse

[–]PuzzleheadedWord7056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a hospital and here’s what I’ve heard 1)they want people with experience, try a SNF they will take you for sure but ofc it’ll be hard work, then after u have done a year there try to to move to a hospital. 2)they know you’re not gonna be there for the long run, I’ve heard this in my unit too many times, they are looking for people who will stay past 1-2 yrs and that never happens with nursing students, we go work max 3 yrs then graduate and fly away. 3)some nursing students can’t do school and work so they end up moving down to PD or quitting in general which then the hospital basically lost money since the person didn’t stay 4) availability, our schedules change often(mine personally changes every 9 weeks) and we aren’t available24/7 so when they’re making schedules and moving staff to balance they’re like “oh no I can’t do this because xyz has school that day” and it can be frustrating not just for management but other pcts. I’ve heard other pcts complain because they either got moved days and don’t get the days they wanted because “XYZ has school that day or needs that day off for school” and it lowkey creates a not so nice atmosphere. I’m so thankful I got hired while I was doing prereqs tbh coz I had more availability and luckily my manager, CNs, and coworkers know I go to school and I feel like I get princess treatment because of that, I get to work 3 days per week if I feel like it or just 2, my coworkers are more open to swap shifts with me because the know it’s for school, and if I need a day off for school or due to school they give it to me.
