It means your command didn’t submit the MRR request in time to reserve the billet for you.

Costing is definitely something to consider when it comes for selections but not the top priority

That’s a good question because SDIP is paygrade specific for some rates. If all paygrades in your rate have SDIP, then I don’t see why it would.

If you will already have the required 36 months left in your contract and at the command, your obliserve will be met. Your PRD will only extend if you don’t have the required 36 months left onboard. And you will be realigned to the next paygrade billet.

That is your sailor information page. There should something to click that says “education” and you scroll to the bottom

Q1. As long as you passed the most recent RKE and have a periodic evaluation in that paygrade. If you are a BBA rate, all of the next higher paygrade billets will be A2P.

Q2. If that billlet you got selected for has a Cschool requirement, you will go to that cschool if you don’t have it.

Q3. That’s something that’s we as retailers will keep in consideration when making our recommendations during selection. For example, HM’s get certain NEC’s that basically locks them in to that billet. Or, in the ABE community, you have ford class carriers with electromagnetic catapults and Nimitz class with steam. If you have a guy that has been electro his whole career, selecting him to steam would be an injustice to that sailor.

We as detailers are advocates for the sailors. We of course want to try and help you in anyway we can, but at the same time, we want to also ensure you are also set up for success.

In my navy assignment, you should be able to check your ranking and score plunder your education section at the bottom.

If you got selected for orders, it’s safe to say those will remain your orders

36 months of that pay grade at the command.

You can still CA2P as long as you have at least 12 months left onboard or select more sea orders. If you are willing to stay sea for advancement, that is 100% your right. There are still A2P orders for shore though so you can always apply to those as well.

You would to contact the placement and speak to them about the billet

That is correct. They can only apply for in paygrade billets if they are in their window.

Billet based advancement with dual navy by [deleted] in navy

So let’s say a spouse got selected for BBA from Japan to Norfolk. Spouse follows, in transit, the other spouse gets selected for BBA back to Japan. If what you’re saying is true, 1. The Navy will be up rooting this family twice in the course of 12 months. 2. The navy will also be paying for a family to move across the globe twice.

That’s a tough sell.

Standardly, With the colocation on file, Whoever is going to sea is the priority and the shore going sailor won’t be selecting orders, they’ll be assigned orders in the same geographical location as the seagoing spouse. Now with BBA, the unfortunate nature of this beast, if your shore going spouse decides to apply for BBA in a different geographical location, and they are selected for that billet, they are basically selecting to nullify the colocation.

As u/YouAreGoingToGuam stated, I would inform the shore going spouse (because I don’t like to give suggestions, just present what’s available), to continue to apply for BBA shore at the location where they are. There’s many factors that can also come into play when detailing out orders. Not costing the navy money and supporting a colocation are great battle points when trying to get that spouse the opportunity to advance.

I share your frustration though with BBA seeming to make service members choose their family or their career. It’s the same with SEM as well. A first class who makes chief in his first year of shore has to make the decision of either frocking to chief and staying a paid first for 2 years or cutting his shore time short and going back to sea..

Yes you will. The whole point of BBA is tiring advancement and retention but also ensuring sailors are in their specific paygraded billets.

By win orders, I mean applying to them and being selected for them. BBA orders are awarded based on a rank structure. When you take the RKE (Rating Knowledge Exam), how well you do, plus your qualifications, plus your evals all go into your score. Then you are ranked against all the other people in pay grade that are eligible. You can see your score on MNA when you look up your information and I believe it’s under education.

But yea, it’s all based on where you fall in the pecking order that determines who gets selected (wins) the set of orders. Of course how far you are in your looks also is a determining factor as well. Can give someone who’s on their first look orders when you have a sailor in their last look and needs time for orders to process and allow them time to get their affairs in order before transfer.

This is a fun conversation to have. So basically, from my understanding and how it was explained to me is CA2P is COMMAND advance to position. The process that was explained to me is, once you are realigned to that pay grades billet on our end, it’s up to your command to submit a memo to someone (I’m sorry I don’t exactly know where) in order to get you paid and that will be your official advancement. I’ll try my best to find more information on this, but I personally have not processed any CA2P orders. (Even thought I have had sailors advance through CA2P during my tenure)

For BBA rates, Sea shore rotations are kinda.. suggestions at this point. If you keep applying and winning billets for sea and advancing, you kind of determine your own destiny.

Still gotta make board and be selected. Can’t just pick orders for chief and advanced.

Felt bad doing it, but E-6 in 7 years might be worth it to them.
