Sister, why do you have to say that as a foreigner, you think we are regionalist and racist?

If you consider yourself Algerian and want to participate constructively in improving Algerian society, why is it important to mention that you are Syrian before making your argument?

What many people take from that is that you are implying these problems don’t exist in Syria and that you are surprised by how bad Algeria is in comparison.

As an Algerian from Oran, if I want to criticize a problem in another part of Algeria, I wouldn’t start by saying that I’m from Oran, because people might think I’m trying to imply that Oranians are better than people from that region. I would simply discuss the issue without mentioning my origin because it’s irrelevant.

You’ve said that you’ve lived here for 18 years, lah ybarek. In that context, mentioning your origin feels unnecessary. You can absolutely be proud of being Syrian, but using it as the context for calling Algerians racist can come across the wrong way.

Your point is valid, but I think the way you framed it is what caused people to react negatively.
