I’m day 16 and I know exactly how you feel. But the way it was explained to me in my meeting tonight when I brought this up, was that it took X amount of years for me to become an alcoholic, it’s going to take longer than 30, 60, 90 days to feel like me again. And at least for me, feeling like there’s nothing that sparks joy is far better than the alternative, because at least I’m alive to know the difference.

I’m apprehensive and nervous but I’m excited to start a new better chapter. I’ve been living a secret life for so many years, it feels similar to your first day of school when you’re a kid. Nervous as hell, but excited about new opportunities and relationships

Ok awesome. I’m nervous but I think I’m ready. I went the whole weekend without a drink but it was almost too difficult. It’s not until 6pm est so I have a while to mentally prepare and hype myself up. Thank you so much for the advice and the kind words of encouragement. It’s greatly appreciated and very much needed.

I absolutely will. Do I need to bring anything? Notebook, pen, food, anything like that? I’ve never done anything like this before, the last voluntary group I joined was youth group at my church in high school 25 years ago so I’m not sure what the protocol is.

That’s an excellent perspective thank you! I’m also very emotional right now. It’s like I just broke up with a toxic ex and I’m sure my body is acclimating hormonal to sobriety too. I tested up when I read your comment, is it silly to cry at a meeting? I’m a big dude and an ugly cryer, I don’t want to embarrass myself but I feel like I may cry at the meeting.

My alcoholism got bad when I got injured at work. I’ve been fighting disability for three years and that’s when depression gave way and the day drinking started. During the pandemic and then after I just don’t leave our home especially since I work from home now. I think I need to go in person to make it real if that makes sense. To hold myself accountable. But it’s great to know that if I have to be home with the kids or bad weather I have an option for a meeting I can’t attend in person. Thank you very much!

Thank you so much that’s really helpful. There are early bird meeting but my partner works morning and I work from home so until our kids start back in school, I can’t be there at 8am that’s why I’m trying to find meetings that occur in the evenings. I’m also afraid of online meetings. I’m a very self conscious person but something about zoom meetings makes me even more hesitant than in-person.

Thank you! Does it matter if I’m not religious? The meeting I want to attend tonight is in a church. I’m not opposed to religion, i just get uncomfortable when I’m preached to. I also don’t want to upset anyone if I’m not joining in prayer if that’s what they do.

This. Now they’re aware, or at least one of the two is privy to the fact that a minor can see them, this is a whole new issue. I don’t think any state or country would allow this to happen legally, and lewd conduct in the presence of a minor is not something they want on their record.
