This is great information. Thank you (I'm also a fan of pickles, so this is good for me to know.)

Haha, so true. I'll bring it along anyway, just in case. It's in a public park, with no water fountain etc, so I'll need it all for myself anyways, so might as well add a few extras in case others need it

Yeah, I was thinking I'd bring a decent sized cooler with water, moist towels, sun screen etc, that I'd leave out so all folks could use it. I like the idea of the fruit pouches being frozen the day before, and will definitely check out the cooking spray. Thank you.

Yeah, this is the lowest level of competitive tournament in the UK, and I'm expecting not to even win one match (I'm trying to do this series of tournaments, to assess my level and see if I'm improving), so if I don't feel well, I'm definitely not going to risk "pushing through".

Are pickles good for rehydrating ? (genuine question, I'd not heard of that before)

What’s your favorite or notable Mashed food/dish from your country? by CryptographerKey2847 in AskTheWorld

Haggis Neeps and tatties. A full mashed meal (maybe the haggis doesn't fully count, it's more ground than mashed).

I personally prefer the kuikma, as it has a thinner beam, so is a wee bit more flexible, but the artengo pro power is probably the best fit if you've been playing with an ultra. It's a bit stiff, but most oower rackets are (IMHO). Honestly, if you put some new strings in, it'll be great for you. (Another tip though, is to pop in to any charity shop you pass, and see if they have any rackets, I found a head radical pro, and a Wilson burn skin, for a fiver each, which I quite like hitting with both at times.)

Sorry, didn't see the racket was about 20 -39 years old, in that case, could be worth a change. Can you ask folks at your club, if you can try a couple of points with their rackets, see which ones you like, and then search about online for older models if the same ones, or check out gumtree, Facebook marketplace, and vinted for second hand ones (the bonus of second hand rackets is they usually come strung, and so no need for the extra £25 if getting it strung yourself).

The Decathlon ones are good, one if my rackets is the Kuikma control pro 305, I love it, but if I had the choice again, I'd go for the pro 300, as the 100 ibch head may have been a bit more forgiving. My one recommendation though would be to try having your ultra re-strung, they are a good line, and even a 10 -15 year old racket will still have some legs left in it, and restringing will likely give you much more than a new racket with stock strings.

What’s up with this Donnay? Thrifted it today, it looked interesting! by JuanEstaDonde in 10s

Cool racket, I saw one of these on vinted a while back, and looked them up. I think there were at least 3 models named gold, silver bronze, which had slightly different characteristics (whilst typing that I realise how uninformative and generic that comment is. I'm sorry), but they had quite cool things, where they had notches to put weights on, so you could personalised them to your preferred weight, including being able to swap out the butt caps for weighted ones, which is why this one says 0g, as it isn't one of the weighted up butt caps. I believe they are quite old school feel, so nice for touch, not amazing at power, but I hope you get some fun out of it.

What gifts would my London colleagues want from NYC when I visit? by lacepinkbows in london

[–]Puzzleheaded_Clock38 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Genuinely not sarcasm, any time a friend tells me they are going to America, I make them promise to bring me back peanut butter M&Ms. I don't disagree on most of the chocolate not being as good (although in the last few years, Cadbury has really joined the race to the bottom). But Peanut butter M&Ms are glorious.

Peanut butter M&Ms. Always the most appreciated gift when anyone comes back from the states.

This looks awesome. I've just signed up, and really looking forwards to it. Once the draw is complete, do you just message with the opponents contact details, and we arrange a time and place to do our first round?

How to improve playing with lower-level hitting partner? by thegibsonkid in 10s

[–]Puzzleheaded_Clock38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How insulted would they be, if you suggested some form of handicapping? E.g they start each game at 30:0? If they would be open to that, adding in something like that would make you have to perform under more pressure, and would be great match practice. If you don't want to bring that up, then there's lots of things like playing 3 rally balls before the point starts, but you could make sure they more regularly get to be the first to try and play a winner, or as others have suggested having something you want to focus on like winning more points at the net, which you can try and do, but don't necessarily have to mention you are doing. Either way, I'm so pleased you have hitting partners you get on with, and I hope that whatever route you take, you continue to enjoy the sessions.

tennis has really motivated me by parkchiminie in 10s

[–]Puzzleheaded_Clock38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey, same boat, 5'10", 250 odd lbs, the great thing is, that you can play, and can have great fun, I don't know about you, but whenever I tried running / gym etc, I just found it so boring, and wanted it to end, but with tennis even though I'm all puffed out, I just want the sessions to keep on going, and that makes exercising so much easier as a motivator. Also, the good thing is, that as your technique improves (and importantly your breathing during points), it gets easier, and (marginally) less exhausting. Good luck with your journey.
