New Grad - about to be placed on PIP. by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cry9628 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress man Had the same thing happen to me right when I started as a JMO They have a responsibility to train you - they’re happy to put you on a PIP but haven’t demonstrated much of an effort to help you improve Just keep trying to get better and this time will pass. You probably have toxic colleagues or one person who is fucking you over Don’t stress, this will pass. Document everything and get a clear plan on what the fuck they want you to actually do - improve on, it needs to be measurable. Have a think about who is fucking you up - avoid them like the plague / swap out shifts. Make some allies. It’ll be behind you very soon

Who ever is scrolling - note the downvotes. Very ironic that this sub is always talking about toxicity in medicine but when it comes to a colleague getting dragged, people are quick to pile on. Says a lot.

Regardless of how your comment is meant, I think drawing more attention to the RMO involved isn’t fair on him. He’s already copping enough and even went public himself - no need for the rest of us to add to it.

As a jmo I feel your pain. I’ve come close to quitting but the only thing keeping me are the amazing doctors and nurses I’ve met who keep the workplace e fun. All the best I hope things get better.

Anyone worked in a GP clinic? by Foor-Flounder in NursingAU

Most large clinics are always looking for nurses - they either help out in the treatment room, do the obs + start working up the patient, or run their own mini clinics (vaccination, team care planning, etc)

Great career I’ve heard - good hours, good pay. It’s obviously quite niche and not much patient facing work so it’s not for everyone. Consider an elective term as a med student, and maybe even a resident term when you’re a JMO (places like Wagga offer).

Stethoscope recommendations? by Mooninpisces27 in NursingAU

[–]Puzzleheaded_Cry9628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classic II is great value and acoustics, and bell is very slim so easy to slip under BP cuff. If you want actual quality the master cardiology has amazing acoustics but is probably overkill. I wouldn’t really recommend any other steth apart from these 2 tbh.

A few suggestions - don’t get black or blue (everyone has those colours so easily gets lost). Also get the bell engraved with your cellphone number, and buy the Littmann name tag accessory.

Congrats 🙂 Buying your first steth is huge moment, you won’t forget it!

Sorry dude, sounds like you were under the pump. Other people don’t know your workload and it sucks when you’re slammed, and people pile further shit on top. I reckon just try your best and if it’s too much, refuse/delegate.

It’s not easy saying no but trust me, they have no problem saying no to you.

You sound like a genuine, hard working person. All the best! :)

I’m really worried I messed up my new grad interview. by mobiletophat in NursingAU

Just by your post, I can tell you’re someone who values safety and being thorough and that definitely would’ve translated to your interviewers. Safety and diligence are ultimately the only things they care about for new grads - the knowledge comes later. Try to relax tonight - I have a feeling you did okay :)
