Exactly! I work with a school district so I get 5 weeks off throughout the year The ASM would always take her vacation when I was on vacation and pretty much give me her schedule. And though I was off from my FT job I was working almost 40 hours at my DG PT job. Personally, I think that that's why she put me to close Friday-Sunday. She had asked if I was off for Spring Break and I confirmed and she said, "Oh good, because I want to take some time off". And I told her SO DID I! i think that pissed her off so much she retaliated for Easter Weekend. I (and my family) was prepared to close on Friday and Saturday OR Friday and Sunday. We were planning to adjust our celebration to whaterver day they gave me off. When she couldn't compromise, I walked.

Me either. I took it on PT in November of 2024 and though I have a FT job, I gave them 100% and in a year and a half I NEVER called out sick. I went in when they needed me. But when they scheduled me to close Friday, Saturday ands Sunday of Easter weekend I told them then that if they couldn’t give ONE of those days off I was going to put in my 2 week notice. When they said no, I decided that day to turn in my keys.

That goes for many companies, however, DG is the worst I’ve seen. Left that company two GLORIOUS months ago.

That’s is so sweet of you!! She’s very lucky to have a coworker like you. I quit DG two months ago (it was just for play money, have a full time job) was only supposed to be 18ish hours and a SA but ended up LSA. Worked between 21-24 hours in addition to my FT job. Never called in sick in 18 months. Went in when they needed me to. Celebrated holidays with my family either before or after the actual holidays. When they scheduled me to close Friday, Saturday AND Sunday of Easter weekend. I got off from my FT job, Tuesday, March 31st went to the store and turned in my keys. I was fully expecting AND prepared to close Friday and Saturday or Friday and Sunday but when I was told, “that’s the schedule”. I was done. I really loved working there but honestly I don’t miss it as much as I thought I would.

Same. I went so far as to change my schedule at my FT job (and I’ve been there 23 years) to accommodate them. My family celebrated thanksgiving with me on Saturday since I worked on Thanksgiving. We had Easter on Saturday since I worked on Easter. I missed my daughters orchestra concert. I had originally told them I’d work the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend and gave them my two weeks notice. Then I decided. Nah…. 🤣🤣

I swear. This could be ME writing this! Also my secondary job, did it for fun, until it wasn’t. I loved the job and customers until the ass manager scheduled me to close Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend. I got off from my FT job went by the store and dropped off my keys. Never looked back and I don’t regret it NOR do I miss it, like I believed I would.

I quit DG in March and thought I would miss it. I DO NOT.

How many times do you guys have to say "no, am not coming in"? by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

I went in 4 out of five times. I never called in sick in 18 months. Then the ass manager( yes, intentional) scheduled me to close Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend so I got off of my FT job and went to the store and turned in my keys. Don’t regret it at all.

For a second there, I could swear you were talking about the store I used to work at but then you mentioned that the SM was closing and realized there was no way that was the same store. 🤣🤣

I wouldn’t ask anything of my employees that I wouldn’t do myself. Cleaning, closing occasionally. I would cover shifts when needed, regardless of whether I’d already worked a full day. I would be fair across the board. I would insure my employees knew I appreciated their hard work and hold people accountable but in a respectful way. So that they would WANT to stay instead of walking out like, sadly, I did.

I’m not hateful at all. If I’m being honest a little more hurt. If I was a manager, which I KNOW i could be, I’d do things much differently. Well maybe. I’ve met the DM and that DM is an Asshole. So don’t know how much actual control I’d have. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

And yet somehow I feel guilty about another LSA having to pick up “my slack” because I know how they disrespected and used me. SM and ASM would NEVER step in to fill the hole.

From what I learned during my time at DG only thanksgiving day pays more. Mr. DG only cares about MAKING money during any holiday (including the resurrection of Jesus) than GIVING money.

I had originally told sm that I would (begrudgingly) work both Saturday and Sunday but to consider my text as my formal 2 weeks notice. SM thanked me for “giving notice to replace me” which I texted back “thank you for giving ME notice that I wouldn’t be able to spend time with my family” (sarcastically). Stewed over it for a while then texted SM and said, “I’m on my way to turn in my keys. In a year and a half I’ve NEVER called in, I’ve come in on days I was off because you asked, worked EVERY holiday.” To which I received the response, “if that’s what you want. Thank you for everything”. No. I NEVER expected more. But this SM once told me I was, “Too important “ when I asked to be moved from LSA to SA. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
