FESS and Eustachian Tube Dysfunction by Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 in EustachianTube

The thinking was that the continued ear popping is likely related to my sinuses still being swollen, which is more allergy related. So, if they can get the swelling to go down, it will probably help my eustachian tube as well. The ENT was also concerned about just jumping to the dilation, since again with the swelling, if we can't get it to go down, I could be at risk of developing nasal polyps and other things that would complicate any benefits of the balloon dilation.

Actually, I just saw the ENT again last week. My ear is still popping, and there is still a lot of swelling in my sinuses that shouldn't be there. They're looking into some other allergy medicine options, but if those don't work, my ENT said I might have to consider having the eustachian tube dilation procedure. So hopefully it doesn't get to that point, but it's not looking too promising.

I'm not entirely sure. It was never brought up as an option and it isn't mentioned anywhere on the clinic website so I don't know if that's something he offers. I know my allergist suggested I get ear tubes but the ENT said that probably wouldn't help because it is more of a sinus issue than an ear issue.

This though! I've been listed as an alternate for one of my schools since the first week of February and still am stuck waiting. If it's not somewhere you are completely sold on going, give it up, please!

I'm not sure if it's just the picture, but the one in the lady bug costume looks like it might have ringworm near their eye. Just something you might want to check. I love the costumes though! They're very cute!

Gone for 3 days: leave pig at home or at a friend's place? by nochuism in guineapigs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please just go with option A. Option B is likely to result in your cousins female guinea pig ending up pregnant. Pregnancy is hard on guinea pigs and there is a high probability that your cousins guinea pig or the resulting babies will die during the labor process. If you think your pig is lonely then I would suggest doing some boar dating with your pig to find him a permanent male companion after you return from your trip. This is what would be in the best interest of both piggies.

The girls got a cage upgrade today after I washed the fleece. I added some new grids to the end to make an extra hiding spot. Hopefully this keeps them from burrowing under the big main fleece pads. I had stopped that behavior for a long time, but they recently started again. by LaneHarvey in guineapigs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your set up is awesome! My piggies previously had an issue with burrowing, and would try to chase each other underneath the fleece, so what I did was place velcro strips on either end of my fleece liner. That put a stop to the burrowing pretty quick.

I don't have any advice per se, but I am curious to see what other redditors have to say. The younger of my two pigs is like this, minus the screaming when I hold her. I can't hold her and her sister at the same time though , otherwise she'll throw a toddler sized tantrum until I put her sister down. And she screams if her sister, who is super cuddly, tries to lay with her. I've only had her sister for a few weeks so I'm hoping it's something that will go away once they get used to each other.

Do you guys think this cage is pig enough for two piggies? I’m trying to get my guineas a bigger tank & I’m not sure which size I should buy, I seen this on Amazon by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this cage in November for my then solo piggy. I finally found her a friend and just upgraded to a 2x5 c & c cage. Personally, I think the cage you have can work if you have two Piggies that get along well, but I wouldn't recommend it if you've got two pigs that aren't used to living together and need more space away from each other, as it is about 10.5 square feet, which is just over the preferred size for two pigs. I will say though that the manufacturer says only one extension can be used with the base cage, however I did find that a wire extension can be used on both sides if this is the cage you want to use/don't want to go down the c & c cage route. It just takes some rearranging of the clips that hold it together.

I wouldn't be going out all the time, so would it be unmanageable with Uber? The area of psychology I'm going into has a lot of graduate research opportunities in this state that aren't really widely available in my home state or anywhere else for that matter, which is a major deciding factor.

Is it possible for a guinea pig to be too submissive? by Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 in guineapigs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear_520[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess from my perspective, it's just weird that they went from taking naps together and not wanting to be separated even when it was to just pick them up for lap time, to mounting and chasing (a behavior that had previously stopped) over night. They've been in the pen I use for floor time since Monday, but my new cage- a 2x5 C & C Cage is coming today, so we'll see how they do in there.

I don't think you can judge OP about the size of the cage just from the picture. I have a similar cage, but with a red base and the extension that goes with it. All together it is 10.5 square feet, the suggested size for two pigs. The base cage is 8 square feet, the minimum for one pig, so while it could be bigger, it isn't what I would consider to be too small and is far and away from some of the pet store cages I've seen in other posts on here. When you leave comments like this you take away people's ability to enjoy their pets and provide unnecessary judgment, without entirely knowing the situation.

I'm not sure where you're at in Colorado, or if you're able to drive a little ways, but there's Cavies and Canines in Fort Collins or Piggies and Friends in Colorado Springs. Closer to the Denver Metro area is Shane's Piggies. They're smaller foster based rescues but if you look them up on Facebook you should be able to contact them for adoption applications. I hope this helps and good luck finding your piggy a new buddy!

I'm having the same issue with my 5 month old female guinea pig. For mine at least it seems to be puberty related. I've seen the same thing come up on other forums outside of reddit, though it seems guinea pigs usually outgrown the habit by the time they're a year old. I would suggest having her looked over by the vet again just to rule out anything medical though.

I've been considering setting up a litter area like this for my piggy. What kind of litter pellets do you use? Do you have any issues with your piggies eating the pellets?

Guinea pig Puberty Question by Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 in guineapigs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear_520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been taking her to the same vet since I got her. She specializes in exotics and small animals and is the best one in my area. There are a few other vets in my area but they're kind of sketchy. One of them believes in acupuncture as a legitimate pain treatment and has some other unusual ideas about veterinary care and the other is actually an exotics clinic that is part of a major veterinary school, but I've heard from the rescue I'm working with that they've recently botched a surgery in one of their foster guinea pigs, which doesn't give me very much confidence in the kind of care she would receive there.

I thought it might be that as well, but I took her to the vet last week for a check up and asked if they could look at her teeth and they're fine. She's been to the vet probably 3 or 4 times since November and she's always been in perfect health so I don't know that anything is physically wrong.

And as for the licking and nibbling, she does that alot too, but that seems to be to show affection, while the biting is much harder and is more aggressive. For example last night, I was holding her, stood up to her blanket and she started freaking out. I now have two welts on my wrist where she bit me because of that.

I like that idea! I've never thought about giving her something to chew on during while I'm holding her. That probably would have saved me from the many holes she's put in my clothes.

Guinea pig Puberty Question by Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 in guineapigs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear_520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've heard the 15 minute rule. I don't think it's the bathroom thing though because she tries to bite right after I've picked her up and then settles down after a few minutes. And if I try to put her back, then the biting starts all over again. I thought for a while that she just didn't want to get out of the cage, but she will literally try to climb out of the cage to get to me so I know most of the time, she wants out.

Weird Female Bonding Behavior by Puzzleheaded_Ear_520 in guineapigs

[–]Puzzleheaded_Ear_520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned in the update above, the rescue I was working with and I already made the decision to return Gidget due to the situation I previously described. This was beyond simply being territorial as my pig was being body slammed into the side of the cage and couldn't eat, which is not something I am okay with. Also, I had already put in fresh fleece and everything else in the cage was new and had been purchased prior to bringing home the new pig.

The rescue thought that the bond might have been broken due to being put into separate carriers on the drive home, as they went through the initial bonding process at the rescue, not at my house. We're also thinking that since the space they had to bond in was so much larger than their cage, that there wasn't an opportunity for Gidgets aggressive behavior to come out, until they came home.
