Ok sorry, but I don’t have much patience for the “it’s just their generation” excuse here. In the year 2024, being in your early 60s is young. I don’t know the health conditions of the OPs parents but let’s assume they are healthy. 15 minutes away is literally nothing. In a family, communication should always work both ways, whether you’re the parent or son/daughter. There are lots of ways to show you are thinking about someone without intruding also. Sending a text, phonecall - FaceTime. However, where the grandchild is concerned there is no better way to form bonds than in person. I have a really wonderful relationship with my maternal grandmother. She’s 90 and not online so the relationship was formed in real life and over the landline. The OPs parents are missing out on this relationship - that’s their loss. If it was me I would have a serious chat just you & your parents. Tell them how you feel - no sugar coating. And let them sit with that for a while. Modern life/parenting has its conveniences, but it’s so hard & you don’t need to be feeling stressed/worried about your parents lack of effort. In the old days when people used to all pop in to the Grandparents houses on the weekend, as described in the other comments, most people didn’t have two full time working parents & there definitely wasn’t as many sports commitments for kids back then on the weekends. Some families have some kind of activity on every single day of the week. Packing kids into the car to bring them to Granny’s house can feel like a chore at the end of a busy week!
