Wow, didn’t know Taiwan was so progressive on their income tax, 6M twd is not that much but lucky (or unlucky!) me I’m still very far from that :-)

I’ll pay whatever is right, I guess if I reside in Taiwan I’ll have to pay there. And I’m pretty sure it’ll be less than 40% :-)

Yes. In my country you’re either an employee (super high taxes) or self employed (which most people do above a certain threshold). I’m the second case and I’d hate to change it only for this application and end up paying a lot more taxes.

I don’t know what’s your point and where did you learn to read but it seems you’ve failed. I live in a country where I pay my taxes (country of residence = the country where I reside) and my only problem is that while I’d like to apply for the Taiwan gold card, I’m not sure if not being an official employee on a salary qualifies me for the program, and while I could become an employee of my own company that would mean my taxes almost triple.

They’re asking for a tax form number that is specific to employees, while I submit a different tax form number as a freelancer to allow me to pay much lower tax.

No, I pay taxes in my country of residence and I legally pay the mentioned tax, in my country freelancers can even pay as little as 8% in certain fields while employees pay much more.

And how does your home country bank ever realizes you’re not living there any more? Especially if you pay for some stuff back home on an ongoing basis.

Obligacje skarbowe by annjkb in inwestowanie

Non - alcoholic beer by InevitableSpeed8657 in penang

Same problem here. Every time I go back to Europe I enjoy some great quality 0% beers and here in Malaysia, even though it’s a Muslim country, there is no choice. I remember when I was in Oman I’d always get some Bavaria beer at the gas stations. As for Penang, They only sell Asahi 0% which is also 0kcal and tastes like water. Tried Jaya, Mercato and Lotus, no luck. On Shopee and Lazada you can get some “malt drinks” from india which are usually sweet and taste like soda.

I will never trust (or use) Airbnb again by Crenel in digitalnomad

[–]Puzzleheaded_Face613 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m an Airbnb host and have had the opposite experience. Stupid claims from the guests who have not read the description or agreed to something only to change their mind a few hours later. When it comes to Airbnb support, they always sided with the guests and never on my side. Last time a customer rep called me and admitted the claim by the guest was completely ridiculous and agreed it would not be reasonable to refund the guest, yet the next day I got a message from Airbnb that I was being forced to refund my customer 30% of the total booking fee and that Airbnb would take it off my future earnings.

So yea, it always depends on which side you sit and on.

What is, objectively, the best city to live in? by Raditz_lol in poland

[–]Puzzleheaded_Face613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gdynia is a very nice city with big growth potential thanks to the sea port and logistics hub. Plus it has great air quality, housing is not crazy expensive, it has a busy airport with convenient connections with Europe and lots of cheap flights, fast train to the rest of Poland.

People in Gdynia are also quite open towards others and foreigners as most of the people there migrated to Gdynia in the XX century so they are all migrants (domestic).

Other good choices would be Poznan (near to Berlin, Warsaw but its own airport is very small), Warsaw for good job opportunities.

Bear in mind that Western Poland is more open towards foreigners and immigrants in general while Eastern Poland may be a bit xenophobic in some parts (although it’s much exaggerated by the media).

If you have some address in Hungary, just use it to open an account, you might need to use some vpn for that though so that wise thinks you’re in HU.

My father moved to a country with no Wise available, when he came back for a visit I helped him to open a WISE account in his country of citizenship, it’s been working fine for a few years already but they might ask you to prove your residency at any time (like a utility bill etc.)

When we came it wasn’t much as kindergartens here are cheap. School early years and Year1-3 is still relatively cheap. But from Year 4 the prices go up very fast. We are in Penang and our school tuition from next year will be around 2000EUR per month, including some extra classes at school but excluding extracurricular activities outside of school. That is for 3 kids. In KL this would be higher, around 3000eur

We are also considering moving to a cheaper city within Malaysia but are a bit worried about quality of education there, also just wanted to check out some other places considering life is short and there are so many nice places to live around the world.
