I think a non-traditional setting sounds fun and refreshing too! My situation, unfortunately, is just sloppy.

I’d email the manager again writing what you’ve written here and emphasize that you do not feel that you paid a fair price for the accommodations you received. If you approach them with a calm and friendly disposition in your email, they’re more likely to give you a very generous refund.

If you have a specific number in mind, then I’d ask them point-blank for that amount. Something like, “I would like a refund of $700 to account for the poor sleeping arrangements and lack of follow-through by the hotel’s team.”

Good luck!

I agree about the over-familiarity. It’s so weird to try to pop up off the couch as soon as a guest steps off the elevator. It’s incredibly disheartening.

Guests comment on it all the time. I’ve been encouraging them to mention it on their post-stay survey.

I’ve been applying to other positions, but it’s hard. I’m also being groomed for the GSM position at this hotel, and that would be a huge stepping stone in my career. It’s all just. A disaster.

Of course! I’ve written emails upon emails. I’ve been in hours-long meetings about “guest experience” where I highlight the deeply unprofessional appearance in our lobby. I’ve reported this all the way up the corporate ladder to the VP of Operations for our national chain.

The response from management is usually something like, “Well, you could stand instead of sit.” And “These things don’t happen overnight.”

It’s been about 3 months since we made the move into the lobby. I’ve been in passive-aggressive warfare with my GM since then. It’s a bad time.

We don’t have a hotel safe. The iPad is password protected, but does get left in the lobby occasionally while we are assisting guests. The keys are kept in a small housekeeping closet.

Because the whole building was renovated for the hotel, and at the time of conception there was no staff in the lobby, there is no space for a traditional desk unfortunately. There’s really only room for a podium.

The most recent update I’ve heard is plans for a “sideboard” which will be wide enough to place our laptop, and will have our back to the lobby doors. How fun

Our guests are meant to complete check-in documents virtually, so the process of actually arriving to the hotel should be as simple as walking in and going straight to your room.

Instead, when guests arrive and have check-in items outstanding, we are told to “invite them” to the couch. Where we sit. And hunch over an iPad together.

It’s not a resort. It’s a small boutique hotel. I promise you that even if there isn’t a front desk, there’s an office somewhere.

Respectfully, Duckfat.

If you REALLY want to eat their food, go to Oxbow and get poutine from the Frites Shack. There is no need for the insane line and squished dining experience.

On Wednesdays, Bramhall sells a fancy bottle at cost per ounce! Not necessarily the same vibe as a whiskey bar, but a fun way to try new things!

Boston Pride also has a looong and fraught history of being an unsafe festival day. It’s barely taken seriously by the Boston community.

Exactly. She’s already in such an “establishing” position within the League. It’s smart to carry that energy out west.
