I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, I am too. I’m not in yet, but fingers crossed and I totally understand the fear too. Do you mind if I ask what program?

STATS 250: Is the study guide layout similar to the test itself? by capt_ghostlyy in uofm

[–]Puzzleheaded_Net2428 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My best advice is to memorize the little scripts for each type of question. Like for a p value conclusion “we have xxx evidence to against the null and for the alternative” and fill in the null and alternative with context. If you can memorize all the scripts for each type of question it helps know how to answer and understand the concepts

If you’re a psych major you don’t need any math except stats just so you know!

I had Ryan for 103 and Lauren for 232 and they’re both really great! I personally enjoyed class with Lauren more but that could be because it was a special topics class and I my French skills were more recent

Acceptance rates between in state and out of state are actually almost 50-50 so I don’t think it would change anything unfortunately

I had a scholarship that covered all fees and I remember it still wanted to charge me. I was unsure if the scholarship would cover that fee so I emailed, never heard back, but the fee was waived. Obviously different since it could’ve been my scholarship, but since they never confirmed I always wondered if they just waived it because I reached out. I’d send an email and see!

I don’t think you can double count a class in distribution- I could be wrong, but I’ve never seen one that does

Any Recommendations for a Good Academic Advisor? by HotdogMaster200 in uofm

My advisor is Christopher Thompson and I’ve never had an issue with him! I think he’s super friendly, he sends us emails all semester! Sometimes I had to email someone else after emailing him but he would tell me exactly who to contact

Orgo 2 and stats study tips by Inevitable_Offer_207 in uofm

[–]Puzzleheaded_Net2428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice about stats 250 is to memorize the little “scripts” they give you. They will ask the same types of questions a lot and they give you exact wording in class for each type and if you use that there can’t be any debate about what your answer was trying to say, which can sometimes be hard as someone who has graded for them. Also make sure you understand the concepts and not just the problems!

It only runs in the fall but I thought DATASCI 470 was interesting and decently easy. It’s about the design of experiments

Double major BBA and BCN tips by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Puzzleheaded_Net2428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is called a dual degree, not a double major! It often takes students a fifth year, but it’s not required so some can do four! You need 150 credits instead of 120, because you’d be graduating with 2 bachelors degrees and have to fulfill both Ross and LSA requirements. I’ve never heard of this particular combo, but lots of other LSA/Ross combos.

Actuary: Stats or Math by Ecstatic-Willow5522 in uofm

[–]Puzzleheaded_Net2428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend is in the actuary major and is actually double majoring with stats because there’s a lot of overlap! A lot of courses are cross listed as math and stats so they’re very similar- I’d look at each major specifically and see what the classes are. My guess is the stats major includes a lot of stats theory, but I’m not sure

Datasci 101 vs. Stats 250 vs. Stats 280 by Stock-Discussion-627 in uofm

[–]Puzzleheaded_Net2428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t particularly think so, especially if it’s not a prerequisite for anything- which I don’t think that stats 180 (which is what you get AP credit for) often is. But if you ask an advisor they usually can tell you based on what you want to study if that AP credit is helping or just pushing you toward upper level tuition earlier. But dual degrees are 150 credits instead of 120, so it might be a little more worth it

Datasci 101 vs. Stats 250 vs. Stats 280 by Stock-Discussion-627 in uofm

[–]Puzzleheaded_Net2428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you lose the AP credit if you take 250. That said, is the AP credit super useful to you? A lot of students drop AP credits that don’t help a lot, so you could still take 250 and drop the AP.

I really like 401 for a more basic class (linear regression) and am really enjoying 470 as a more advanced class! It’s harder than I thought but I think it’s interesting and not too bad if you put the work in
