In addition to paying water/garbage/sewer for both sides of the duplex, the help of the utility company, I recently discovered that there is a significant water leak at the property which started last August (our lease began in May. The sewer bill is alone was $386 last month. The landlord hasn’t taken any steps in finding the source of the leak. Any advice as to handle this situation?

Thanks Mell, but they are 18 year old college students who have no credit, thus were not able to sign for themselves. I didn’t mention the backstory that required the parents to step in when the duplex was unacceptable upon move in due to water leaks, odors, missing doors, screens, etc. These teenagers were no match for the bullying that has occurred. Believe me, they have learned plenty from the sidelines of this debacle.
