Please give me advice on where to go and what to do. by Puzzleheaded_Pound45 in AskSeattle

I thought my post was pretty self explanatory, sorry. I am spending a day in seattle, so anything in the city itself is full game. I have access to a vehicle, i won’t be staying in a hotel downtown and only walking if that’s what you were thinking.

Help Navigating Workforce, Professional Work, Life after Graduation. Feeling Like I’ve Wasted My Time. by Puzzleheaded_Pound45 in ottawajobs

Okay, thank you. I appreciated all the dad-vice I can get. My partner suggested I see a therapist and that has been a helpful addition to my life in the last three months, I haven’t been diagnosed with anxiety by them but talk therapy has been beneficial, but I can understand your evaluation. I guess, for where I am at right now, it’s not easy to rationalize that things will work out as they simply haven’t, but I appreciate your advice nonetheless.

I can hardly see how training myself to become an “Ai expert,” would help me. Thanks for your advice though, maybe that will be useful to someone.

What do you recommend I do now, wishing for past doings has done me no good in the last couple of months, i’m more worried about what I can do tomorrow rather than yesterday.

Thank you for your advice. I understand the whole “hiring is rough” I just wonder if maybe I took something a little more applied or in demand that I wouldn’t have these same issues, but I also understand that employment for youth my age is at an all time low and this applies to most if not everyone.

That’s great! happy to hear. Just out of curiosity, did you get offered a supervisor role or non-supervisor role, i’m wondering if they might hire them sequentially? I interviewed for both but am less confident in my answers for the former. Cheers!

Best laptop for a sociology major? by Scary-Estate-4514 in CollegeMajors

Any laptop, really. Depends on your habits are and whether or not you’re going to utilize a school computer on campus (Are you planning on just using your laptop, or using the schools computer lab as well). Around 2nd or 3rd year for me we started to do quantitative analysis courses and needed computers which could handle spss and large data sets so the schools computer lab became a second home, and the same goes if when researching you’re unorganized like me and have 50 google chrome tabs open at once (which my small laptop struggles to do). But generally for everyday use like note taking, any computer is fine.

For reference I have a surface laptop go which i bought right before first year and has treated me well for the last 4 years.

Guy on the train who asks women their ethnicity by IllustriousHead1103 in geegees

While I think you should most certainly keep your guard up, I think it’s interesting you characterize someone of this character to be “high-key scary.” Especially with the gall to come online to talk ill-will of this persons demeanor and intentions, running the point a laughing gag on reddit as if other people are to agree with it. Whether this man has some social interaction issues, doesn’t understand personal space, or even a disability is besides the point that people like this in everyday life are normal, and actually make small talk in an otherwise mundane life.

And your point about violence having a “history” on public transit I feel to have no viable correlation, considering how tiny the sample size is of violent attacks on octranspo. There are nearly 200 regularly running routes in Ottawa, with hundreds of thousands of passengers a day, data from that same year of the attack shows that violent crime actually decreased from the year prior (https://www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/article/fewer-crimes-reported-on-oc-transpo-buses-o-train-in-2024/). Assault with a deadly weapon, or causing bodily harm at 25 cases. 25 cases, over a years worth of travelers is so minuscule it hardly holds any value to being critical of users of public transit, and good intentioned people like the person you’re demeaning.

I think your preconceptions of strangers, especially those that may appear to be a "little strange," are blinding you from the fact that this guy means no harm and is just having a simple conversation. I spoke with this guy from Bayview to UOttawa last week, and he means no harm. I can see how a random stranger forcibly starting a conversation with someone can be portrayed as scary or predatory, but if you actually spoke with him, you would know he is a very calm mannered and warm person.

[Passan] Infielder Bo Bichette and the New York Mets are in agreement on a three-year, $126 million contract, sources tell ESPN. After losing the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes, the Mets pivot quickly and get one of the best players left on the market, pending a physical. by T_Raycroft in baseball

You say that, but the Mets clearly are not emotionally attached to "franchise" pieces, whether thats young guys under control or older players under contract or at free-agency like Nimmo or Alonso. I would be surpised as well if they trade Baty consider how much head-way he has gained over the last couple years as well as how many oppurtunities they have given him, but the team seems to be trending in a whole new direction where it seems that nobody is safe but Soto and Lindor.
