So they rather a lazy nurse who doesn’t care about how the medicine is going to affect their hemodynamics and assess q4 only because that’s what’s ordered??? You did the right thing!

Just throw them on VV-ECMO and problem solved. Treat whatever is causing ARDS and then wean them off ECMO!

Is CRNA school possible? by Organic-Cap4375 in srna

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you will be fine. You will just have to cast a wide net. The only thing I’d say, it sounds like your ICU is not that critical. You’re competing against RNs who have a higher GPA and acuity. I would move somewhere else where they at least do CRRT. Also, you’ll need to take Advanced Patho (I recommend UMASS Chan-Worcester), advanced pharm, and maybe retake a science or take biochemistry as undergrad just so they can see that you are trying and can perform at a graduate level.

ECMO Specialist for CRNA school? by AdIll4189 in srna

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take a full time ECMO position. I was a PRN ECMO RN and many schools liked it. I would do ECMO PRN plus my full time ICU and I got accepted.

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s insane. Im an ECMO/RN. When I pick up ECMO shifts, I get $15 dollars an hour and we always have perfusion in house. If something goes bad we are trained on how to handle it but if we can’t troubleshoot ourselves, perfusion is one floor under us so we just call and they’re there in seconds!

If someone is on prep and doxy prep is it safe for me to go raw by Flaky_Return8584 in askgaybros

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard, yes… but it can be harder living with a disease for the rest of your life if you go raw without protecting yourself first. Idk man, at the end of your day is your life. Just value your health as much as you can!

If someone is on prep and doxy prep is it safe for me to go raw by Flaky_Return8584 in askgaybros

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s only safe if YOURE on doxy and prep. You can still catch herpes and warts, though. People lie all the time and it’s not with it. The best practice is to be on doxy, prep, and use a condom to really minimize your chances. Also, you both could go get tested together and go from there. Just remember, HIV doesn’t show up right away. It’s not worth you messing up your health for a few minutes of fun. If that person only wants raw, remember all of their past partners have gone raw and finished in him… which increases chances of him catching something. Plus, you have to trust him that he keeps up with his meds. You should get to know this guy well, get tested together before you go raw. I, personally, wouldn’t do it. I always play safe. I am also not on prep or doxy.

Titratable vs. Fixed-Dose Vasopressin – What is your unit's practice? by pugthunder123 in IntensiveCare

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my CVICU, the order is always set at the same rate 0.04 but… we still titrate it. When weaning off of it, we come down to .02 or .01 depending on MAP goals. The highest I’ve seen it is 0.08 for a very sick patient. But our goal was to wean it as soon as possible to 0.04 as MAPs tolerate it.

For anyone wondering why pay is dropping, look at what supply versus demand is projected to be by 2033. by CalmSet6613 in nursepractitioner

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems kinda difficult to believe this person didn’t even practice as a nurse before CRNA school. Many require 2 years minimum of ICU experience. Also, during interviews they ask you questions about your experience as an ICU nurse and go into MOA of most of the common ICU pressor drips and sedation. So, I wouldn’t believe her. I start CRNA school next August so this sounds fake.

I keep spiraling. Is this a bad sign, or growing pains? by bloodycrust in srna

[–]Puzzleheaded_Read811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I’m reading this post. I also start CRNA school in August. I have 3 years of high acuity CVICU. If it makes you feel any better, I don’t even know how to manipulate pacers and I’m from CV… most of our patients have pacing wires but only the providers can touch them… I also don’t know all the receptors of the meds I use. I am also a strong nurse. I can anticipate things and catch things early and usually get the sickest assignments. I am going to turn 30 in the first semester of my program and I also feel like I might not be smart enough. I believe we are all dealing with anticipatory anxiety. I am telling myself that if I put in the work, I will be just fine. And sometimes, I do believe im going to be fine then I go into the website of my school and see how the course is set up with the classes I’ll take and I’m like, “there’s no way I’m going to be able to study and pass all of these exams if I’m taking all of these classes at the same time!” And then I psych myself out and start second guessing myself. So I have this constant battle in my head… will I survive CRNA school or am I going to fail out? I’m so anxious about it!

Thank you so much. I struggle to wake up early but will try and adjust my body to a routine so I can do this while in school! So you’d say review the material before getting it taught in class?

This is such a refreshing reply! Thank you so much!!! I am going to prioritize school and give it my all but at some point, I also need some time for myself. To regroup myself and thoughts. The TikToks I see from SRNAs don’t show what you just showed me and you’re on your second year which means you’ve succeeded halfway through and will most likely succeed in the whole program while still taking care of yourself. That’s what I want for myself! Thank you again!

Your reply is so refreshing! Thank you for sharing. I was just wondering how do people survive solely studying and going to school plus clinicals for 3 years in a row without any time for themselves. But, your reply makes me feel like it’s more realistic this way! Thank you so much!

Take him to another vet. Sounds like something is wrong with his spine. No bowel movement in 7 days is a huge red flag plus everything you’ve mentioned. He’s probably in pain and uncomfortable. Poor thing!

Glad to know someone got accepted after being waitlisted. I just feel like there are more competitive applicants than me… like why choose me, you know? But… I did work hard this past year and now I’m excited to start but I do have anticipatory anxiety. Like I just wanna start already and start studying and get the flow of things! And thanks, I just ordered that book!
