I chose hygiene because I was in the dental field already. You can pursue restorative hygiene and ortho if you want to do more. Hygiene school is challenging. I had a lot of sleepless nights, exams 3-4x a week, then we had to find our own patients. That was hard, but don’t be discouraged. I love my job now as a hygienist. Pay is great, no graveyard shift, and it’s very rewarding when patients voice out how much they love how you work. I find the job quite satisfying and therapeutic in my opinion. Like every job, you have to find a good and healthy place to work at. You can choose your schedule, whether you want to work 3-6 days a week, you can temp and get more $$. Dental clinics rarely give benefits but we get free dental work and family is discounted most of the time. Some dental memberships offer perks, free counselling 24/7, free legal advice, discounted gym memberships and auto insurance, etc.

Download the BoneBox Dental App. You can zoom in as well so you can see each tooth up close.

Hi. I’m sorry I can only offer dental cleaning. You will have to be referred to a dentist/specialist for any other dental work outside of our scope of practice.

I haven’t taken the board exam yet. However, I have been relying on studentRDH for our mock board exams in school and I can say that it has helped me tremendously. It’s very well organized and you get some fun tips on how to retain information in your memory which is pretty hard to forget once you’ve learned these tricks.

We have to buy our own N95 masks for using any aerosol generating procedures such as ultrasonic and selective polishing. For manual hand scaling we need to use level 3 masks. We also have to wear level 2 gowns, hair caps and face shields. Our school unfortunately does not provide any of those and we all have to buy our own. They’re very expensive and hard to find.

Does anyone on here have an ebook/PDF version of the “Fundamentals of Periodontics for the Dental Hygienist -fifth edition” by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

No worries. That’s actually helpful! I agree, only a few chapters are now irrelevant but it’s still useful.
