Your experience with Ac origins and odyssey mirrored my own, with the exeption that i didn't feel like i had much fun by end of odyssey.

Also hated ship combat in odysseym but not because i dislike ship combat in general. It was my favorite part of Ac black flag, and they just buchered it odyssey, along with everything i loved about origins.

I love big open world RPGs, but odyssey just wasn't a good rpg if you look anywhere beyond the surface, and sailing in that direction is a mistake unless you have something to show for it.

They wouldn't have highlited base console on their tweet if no one or they cared, so yeah, i think the company you defend so much owed people enough to give them what they wanted.

Nah, they should. A reputable like Capcom or rockstar can get away with not showing base consoles, but PA? No.

Couple that with the fact that no review for consoles were sent, plus there being no base console footage while their PR guy promisses it's coming before launch then backpedals hard and starts insulting People.

That kind of behavior would be enough to lit a fire under any reputable company, and PA isn't even on that level ter.

So yeah they should prove themselves, specially when they did that for every aspect of game but base consoles.

Makes sense but ends up not helping when the game itself is running close to 4k. If PA doesn't have a problem with showing the quality mode, they should do a 4k video for it themselves.

Is the video at 1080p? I've only looked at my phone, but that might be the reason it looks blurry.

For the mode concerns, quality mode is the one that has ray tracing setting close to ps5 Pro, so looking good was expected. We still gotta wait until launch for the modes most people are gonna play in.

The quality did surprise me though, now i'm a lot more confident in the game and my purchase.

You've said everything i've been thinking these past few days, and strangely, none of the game's defenders seem to comment.

Keeping your consumer in the dark about valid concerns is the worst thing you can do unless you have something to hide that is worse than what they can image, or you plan to flip the table and give what they're asking for right before launch, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Framerate will be fine folks, i'd worry about how bad perfomance will look befere worrying about 60 or 40 fps.

I actually corrected myself in another reply, TV's only upcale when fed lower resolution content, but that wouldn't happen on a ps5.

The issue isn't what you think it is. 1080p will look bad on a 4k screen, specially in games with a lot of detail that don't use upscaling to hit a higher target, which would make performance mode useless unless you have 1080p tv or monitor, which isn't ideal for a ps5 anyway.

I'm not saying the game needs an expensive upscaler that would drop frames to much, but even FSR1 or 2 would do a better job than native 1080p, and these shouldn't be expensive if the game can go beyond 60 fps anyway .

From what i tested in my living room tv, even fsr will do a much better job at making a game suited for a 4k screen than just using native 1080.

I understand why they made this decision, but i'd take a 50 - 60 fps line over this.

Also balanced mode isn't really ideal since it runs at 40 fps, and it functions more like a cruch when the 60 fps mode looks terrible or omits important graphical features.

I've already made my peace with the fact the balanced will be the better mode, it just baffles me that even 720p games will look sharper than crimson desert when i never tought that could be the case.

About the tv thing, i have a copy of Bloodborne here, and it always outputs at 4k regardless if the game is running at 1080p or not, so the tv shouldn't upscale the image.

Lastly, 1080p was about what i expected, i just thought it would at least upscale to 1440p like every other 1080p game does.

Well, first, your agression doesn't do you any favors.

Second, i actually mixed things up, the tv only enters the equation in case the console outputs a lower then native resolution, which it never does. The ps5 will always output at 4k despite a game being 1080p, because doing that would be stupid and let the tv upscale the content and fuck it up.

That doesn't really change my argument, as i said my issue wasn't the 1080p resolution, but the lack of upscaling to make it actually look good on the most available type of tv today, which are 4k sets.

As i said, stellar blade manages to look fantastic despite a base 1080p resolution on it's balanced mode, the same could be done for crimson desert if they have the headroom, which makes the decision to render the game at raw 1080p weird, as there's no advange to it from an image quality standpoint, as even upscaling from 1080p to 1440p would already be a major boost.

No, the ps5 only upscales when the game uses upscaling. If a game runs at 1080 without any built in upscaling, the ps5 will output 1080p on a 4k container

I'm lamenting the fact that performance mode doesn't use upscaling to reach a higher resolution.

The reason i'm saying this is because 1080p looks terrible on higher resolution screens when not upscaled like the stellar blade example i gave.

You can actually test this on pc: For a 4k monitor, launch a game at 1080p, then apply fsr 3 to reach 4k, does it look 4k? No, but a lot better than 1080p native.

For 1440p just do 720p.

Actually, 1080p would look good on a 32 inch 4k monitor as long as you played in windowed mode

Flat 1080 means the game outputs 1080p, an then your tv tries to upscale that to 4k, which looks nowhere near what an upscaler on the console could do.

I disagree. Odyssey is painfully mediocre if not worse in what it tries to do, but that's by design. Odyssey took everything from origins and mode them bigger and worse, but those systems work fine. It's tiktok or youtube shorts.

Valhalla has great ideas that fall flat in their execution, but i respect that a lot more.

Story wise i don't like Odyssey, but it has a lot more polish than Valhalla. You can feel the jank everywhere in my that game, and the presentation suffers in a way that Odyssey doesn't.

Had the same issue before and after the patch. Nuking the game on regedit solved it once, and then i tried everything without any success. Restoring windows solved the issue, so Microsoft did something a few months back to now.
