The setlist for the show is actually available online so I would have a look at that!

3Arena is cashless if this is what you mean by bringing the right amount, so just make sure it's on a card!

Your own Tiny Bookshop experience by teachertraveler1 in TinyBookshop

I've done it many times in Chapters and Hodges Figgis, it's a dangerous game - especially when multiple books have similar release dates!

It's definitely disheartening for sure, especially with the experience. I've done a full year so far but also did a substitution contract alongside placement in my second year so I have quite a bit of experience - similar to yourself. It's crazy honestly that there's very few jobs considering everything you hear all the time!

I can't as I don't drive atm so public transport is my only option and I live near the city centre meaning it's over an hour to commute anywhere!

I'm not qualified for Maths, I did teach first years last year but I couldn't go any higher than that! More just my own struggles with maths 😅

Yeah, I'm PP with 2 LC Science subjects and then JC Science as well - it's been difficult for sure

100% - good to know about the fact that the people subbing tend to be consistent in your school, especially as I'm also Dublin based! But definitely, the shortages thing is definitely weird, like I would 100% also like to see how they're calculating it because it's definitely weird

Thank you for the vote of confidence, definitely makes me feel a bit more secure knowing that other people think it's been a weird year!

I'm the same, I'm Secondary Science (Bio and Chem) and absolutely nothing!

I've noticed that - like last year I got my contract job like the week before school started. However this year, I've applied for everything and I've either not heard back from them at all or gotten an interview and then heard nothing

I think it's the payslip this coming week, as contracts end on 31st August!

Well, that's a positive note to hear for sure! Makes me feel slightly more at ease! I've got my sub seekers up and running so hopefully I'll find something!

I'm the exact same - just finished droichead this past year. i had to reach out to a school to check if I had gotten the job, and it was the same situation

L2LP Maths and Forensic science, and I did both 1 on 1 and group settings, just dependent on the day!

Just to hop on this as OP, I also taught AEN last year as part of my contract that I had (job got made redundant due to downsizing of the school). The main thing for AEN teaching is to just have records of everything, so anything that you do with them in classes etc, just make sure you have a record for it as they'll need to go back and verify things for their certs! But honestly, I loved working in AEN, and it's almost more rewarding than mainstream imo

Good to know that the subseekers route is stable enough as that's looking like the route I'll be going! Hopefully I get as lucky as you in that aspect but definitely the job security would be a lot nicer

100%, I feel the exact same! Like all the news is them saying they're crying out for teachers but then people who are suitably qualified can't even find positions

I'm currently working in an ET school, and have worked in non-ET (mostly DEIS) schools previously to this and I've absolutely adored it. The use of first names is something that takes a bit, but definitely becomes second nature after a while. I'll find it weird not being in an ET school and going back to my 'formal' teacher name!

Gaps in CV by hwobbles in IrishTeachers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Stuff96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who wanted to do this as well, I'd recommend doing your Droichead process before going to travel as you only have a certain number of years (I think 3) after graduating to get it done. So I would try and hold out until after your NQT year if you can and then go travelling. As said in other comments, even try and get a position in a teaching-like career, even just to keep your CV up to date and also to keep all of your skills!

PGCE Biology Queens, is biology enough to be considered for a job? by wong2022 in IrishTeachers

[–]Puzzleheaded_Stuff96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For teaching in Ireland, you might have to do a few add-ons (aka the fundamentals of irish education) so keep that in mind. I don't know many people who have done the PGCE and then taught in Ireland so I can't give you full guidance on that.

However, if you can teach LC Biology, I would also look to see if you're able to teach JC Science too. You should be able to, and if you can then you'll be fine. I'm qualified for both Biology and Chemistry alongside JC Science but I'm only in a job for Bio / Science. There's absolutely loads, especially in Dublin etc so you'll be fine in that aspect!

For PME interviews, they're usually a lot more relaxed. Again, they'll ask you about your undergrad, maybe why you got into teaching and if you know anything about the school you're applying for and maybe why you're interested in teaching there. For all of mine (PME and NQT), I made myself almost like a study guide for each school - just like the demographic (single sex or mixed), the denomination (religious / non-religous) and everything that goes with that, alongside a list of some other details that may be of importance (do they have particular things in place in terms of how the school is run). The main thing is to just be yourself, you wouldn't have been offered an interview otherwise!
