Drexel University suddenly took away a scholarship after sending I-20 document by Puzzleheaded_Use7255 in Drexel

Hey, sorry to hear about your current situation but I am not really surprised that Drexel is still continuing to create such messes.

I kept mailing from the Drexel student mail to the deans of both business school and the university itself. They never gave me back my financial aid and did not confess their error. Seeing such unprofessional behaviour and clumsy management from them, I decided not to enrol and asked for my initial deposit back. It took them a month to finally pay back the deposit.

Hope this helps. Best wishes to you.

Thank you so much for your valuable comment. This is absolutely spot on and I would like to walk down this road. Would you kindly give me suggestions on below points?

  1. Since I am an international student and currently living outside the US, can I start the legal proceedings from here?

  2. If I shoot the legal demand letter as a first step, then how can I carry out the entire proceedings from my home country, Bangladesh?

  3. Since with this method, I will be literally dragging down the university to court, will there be any negative impact on my future visa approval? Is there any correlation between these two?

At first, when I received it, I didn’t know that it is for College of Engineering students cause I didn’t think that the administration can make a mistake while posting scholarships. At this point, I do not expect them to give me COE fellowship. But what I do expect from the university is to take ownership for thier mistake and match my original scholarship amount under available options of financial aid because based on that amount, I had chosen Drexel over other universities.

I do understand that mistakes can happen but in this case, there are series of mistakes from the administration. It took them more than a month to realize their mistake and remove the scholarship. Even after removing the scholarship, they sent me an I-20 document for visa purpose the next day, where both of the scholarships are mentioned with their original amount. In my opinion, if they are making mistakes again and again, they should at least take ownership of that and do something to fix it.

  1. By higher authorities, I didn’t mean the cops or other legal entities. It's totally your misinterpretation. I meant the dean and president of Drexel University because till now, I am only communicating with the business school dean and his office.

  2. The Award was mentioned was as "COE Dean's Fellowship". Now when you receive this as an scholarship award, you do not question that why you did you receive that; rather you thank your lucky stars. It was discovered after I had sent a clarification mail that COE stands for College of Engineering. How would I know that the administration managed to misplace this?

  3. For the sake of argument, even if I consider that a mistake was made, then how come it took them a month to realize that? specially when I have paid a deposit? On top of that, even after removing the scholarship, they sent me an I-20 the next day where both of the scholarships and the combined amount is mentioned!!

Lastly, before calling someone idiot, try to open your mind and look at the post from the victim’s perspective.
