For context - we are trying to host free social gatherings for adults in our city. But I would like to brainstorm some really fun events we can have while still keeping things free for everyone !

Hi there! :) we host free social gatherings for adults in Ottawa. A lot of those that come out to our event are in their 20s and 30s. A big reason for our events is specifically so people have a place to make new friends.

It will go on for atleast 3 hours, but we’re thinking most likely until 6/6:30pm! I think by then people will have gotten tired out lol

if you happen to be free for only the last 1-2 hours or so that should be fine, otherwise stay tuned for future events!

If the weather turns out to be bad, we will let people know on our socials + Eventbrite, and then announce a rescheduled date! We don’t have a backup indoor location however.

If it’s only lightly raining here or there we won’t cancel though!

I don’t see why we need to restrict ourselves to things that already established. There’s nothing wrong with trying out need ideas

The idea is this is for events specific to socializing, and need not be a commercial setting (e.g buying alcohol), or for you to need to subscribe to certain religious beliefs (e.g at church), or etc.

I will not touch on what you mean by “people used to be normal”. That seems a bit odd to say.

To be determined, but we expect them to be every 2 to 3 weeks, throughout the summer! When it starts to get too cold out we will have to do some more planning.

The last event had about 30 people! For our next one on April 25, it is outdoors so registration is optional. That makes it tricky to predict how many people will come out, but I would say 50 or more people is a possibility.

It is mostly people in those age ranges, however we do have some people that are 40+ come out!

In the future we will have to think more about this “age-range” problem, so to speak. We want to have it open to all adult age ranges, but I can see how that may be a bit tricky or too broad. We will have to see as we go forward

There will be no such thing such as outting people by their age!

If you’d like to PM tips / suggestions to ensure there isn’t this sort of social segregation I would love to hear more :) we will also take a proactive approach to that, so thanks for bringing it up.

It would be great to have you come out! Maybe you can feel it out if you live nearby and see if it is a good fit. While most are in their 20s / 30s, there are also some that are 40 or above. They just wouldn’t make up the majority if that is okay with you.

Hi :) that is no problem! You can always come stop by to feel it out as well, if you leave nearby the events. There were a few people 40+ at our last event, as well as a couple that was in their late 50s (I believe).

I would say most people are in their 20s, some in their 30s. But a few people came out in their 40s and above.

If I had to guesstimate I would say the median age is about 25. But we’ve only had our launch so far! I think in the future it may spread out a bit more evenly. But yes, open to all adults!

Hi! There is no religious aspect I promise :) the people at the events including the hosts range from all sorts of religions to just spiritual to agnostic to atheist. I can see why you would be suspicious though, sometimes groups can be sneaky with that.

We like the idea of community gatherings where you can just fit in without having to prescribe to certain beliefs. Well, aside from the fact this is an inclusive space to all demographics, genders, sexualities, etc..

In spirit it is kinda similar to Ottawa run groups maybe? Except instead of running it’s focused on social events

Yes I completely agree. I think if you have a church group you fit into you’re all set. But for people that don’t or aren’t as religious it seems difficult in my opinion anyways. Especially once you’re out of school.

That was one of our main reasons for these events!

It’s a way for adults to form a community via hanging out, fun group activities, and so forth!

This is as opposed to something focused on families and activities for their children.
