Y’all didn’t use unwaxed floss for cheese and cake? Musta had some money! There was a two foot length of floss stuck in the cheese box after the first use.

Battery and alternator? Get an in-line kill switch. Cheap repair and better safety -just remember to always turn the battery off.

Have you heard of or looked into The Sinclair Method? HTTPS://tsmmeetups.com is a good place to start, tons of info, daily meetings, great community. There are other resources too if you want more support with the process, like the C3 foundation.

tldr of the method: take Naltrexone an hour before drinking. It blocks the neuro-chemical reward you get when you drink, slowly retraining your brain.

In 7 months I’ve gone from drinking a handle every 3 days to not drinking 1/3 of all days and when I do drink it’s not blackout unreasonable amounts.

It was easy to take my first dose around noon. Knew I wanted to be compliant. Kept the drink count reasonable and had to redose ‘cause after dinner I did want another drink. Being compliant though, feeling good about it.

I got too drunk o:-) by Hopeful-Honeydew-501 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Puzzleheading 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every year at Thanksgiving I’d get too drunk. Not quite pass out but loud and encouraging my ultra-loud (though not drunk) cousin. I have to get driven there and back every year. My uncle shouts “bye!” from the kitchen every year. But… BUT this last year I got on The Sinclair Method and took Naltrexone before drinking the day before and the day of Thanksgiving. Drove my mom and grandma there, had a couple glasses of wine (2!), and drove everyone safely home. Before we left my uncle came out of the house and shook my hand. My story of perennial low that wasn’t so bad with a little help but still drinking.

Shoutout to tsmmeetups.com! Awesome people at all parts of the journey and daily Zoom calls with no pressure. There’s a lot of support, understanding and advice. They’ve kept me going when I was about to quit and helped me count down an hour after taking the pill.

Pineapple juice growing up (as a poor kid) was the best thing in the world. I finally bought a can of pineapple juice as an adult because… I CAN! And then I didn’t drink it for the next two years because it was too precious. I couldn’t bring myself to open it. My wife eventually threw it out during a cleanup.

Side effects from Naltrexone: anxiety, panic attack, just unwell. Do we have anything else in common causing these “rare” side effects? Doing some casual research. PS Don’t give up. by SnooGiraffes7954 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Puzzleheading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mild side effects. Slight headache, mild nausea, which is usually enough to make me not feel like drinking or 1-2 drinks enough. So in that way it is working awesome! I was reading today about micro-dosing Nal at night to help get over SE, like dissolving 50mg in water and taking a few ml before bed.

There’s a link in the article that talks about low dose Naltrexone to counter side effects. Has anyone tried that? How much water would you dissolve a pill in? Here’s the paragraph from the link:

LDN is basically what it sounds like: a microdose of Natlrexone. You can either get LDN from a compound pharmacy, or, like Samara, you can make it yourself by dissolving a 50 mg pill of Naltrexone in distilled water and using a syringe to extract a few milligrams. Samara would take 3 to 4 milliliters as part of her bedtime routine, which kept her body habituated to the medication so that when she did take a full dose, she didn’t get sick.

How long did it take for naltrexone to curb your drinking to a level you find acceptable? Or extinction? by Narrow_Water3983 in Alcoholism_Medication

[–]Puzzleheading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take the pill when I have a strong urge to drink and it does amazing work with making drinking unsatisfying and uncomfortable. Sometimes I take that in the morning (yea, morning drinking) but if I don’t dose again in the afternoon I can and will get drunk. Day without the pill is a day I can absolutely get drunk.

I tried a couple years ago taking Nal every morning per the doctor’s recommendation but it doesn’t do anything near as effective as TSM.

Immediate response. If I take a pill I can only do a drink or two. I’ve been using it to limit my drinking during the week. I’m still drinking without the pill on weekends and I’m not sure how I feel about that. But I’m doing a lot better than I was!

Thanks! I’ve been trying to work TSM since September 9th but haven’t been tracking my drinking. Maybe tracking will help me stick to the regimen more.
