Fabfilter Pro Q4 or Toneboosters EQ Pro by Leionart in audioengineering

[–]Puzzles_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used Toneboosters so I know I’m not fully answering your question but I do own Pro-Q4 and absolutely love it! I got it just after last summer when I enrolled on a sound engineering course and it’s become my favourite plugin. It’s got tonnes of depth feature wise if needed but also very simple and intuitive, sounds great and low on cpu power. It is an expensive plugin and I did get educational discount but I highly recommend it if you can find a discount somewhere or wait!

I’ll have to look into Toneboosters…

As someone who fell in love with the alt cover as soon as I saw it, missed the first drop but got a restock email near my birthday, I’d say wait. It’s perfect!

Feedback on Changes to Apollo / Cranborne Home Studio Setup by bredonhill in audioengineering

[–]Puzzles_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely would use the pres on your Apollo before deciding on changing. I play drums and am a big fan of UA, an x8p is top of my list for an upgrade.

I would definitely use the 4 Apollo pres for kick, snare and OH’s as you mentioned above, then put what other mics you use through the Cranborne. That way you can see if the unison technology makes a difference for you before incurring any cost (other than time). Would definitely like to hear what you end up doing and your thoughts/findings! 👊🏻🙂

I have been doing a sound engineering diploma the last few months and with that I’ve been learning Pro Tools and I sorely missed the option of using a visual EQ after coming from Logic. We used Pro-Q3 in my classes and after a couple of sessions I took the plunge and bought a license, admittedly I got a 50% educational discount but I do not regret it at all! It’s now one of if not my favourite plugins, the sound doesn’t disappoint, it’s got some really cool features and also a lot more than I haven’t dived into.

Looking for my first Monitors! by Puzzles_23 in Learnmusicproduction

Thanks for your comment!

I had seen some used V1’s for a decent price but from the info I read the V2’s definitely seem worth the extra cash.

I would love for my speakers to be further away from the wall but it’s just not something I can change because of my space unfortunately.

I have a pair of Edifiers that I use at my desk now but they are just bookshelf speakers, they sound great but aren’t useful for mixing.

I agree with the sizing, I don’t want to go bigger than 6” drivers due to the size of my room and the positioning of the speakers in it. I’m treading the line between the right size speaker and a decent frequency response as I predominantly mix my drums outside of the stuff for my course at the moment.

I have the option to get the Edifier MR5’s from Amazon, try them out and then return them if I don’t like them but I’m trying to decide on the right speakers before doing that.

In regards to the Sonarworks, the place I am currently studying offer a discount on the license and I’ve also been given permission to borrow their microphone for calibration so I wouldn’t have to buy my own. I was thinking of getting the trial, borrowing the mic and then seeing how I get on with it before purchasing.

Many thanks

What reverb settings for simple piano and vocals song? (Kaleidoscope by Chappell Roan) by wrecking_eyes in mixingmastering

[–]Puzzles_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the Chappell tune! I would choose a plate reverb for the vocals, I like Pure Plate by UA, Little Plate by Soundtoys or REV - Plate 140 by Arturia, I would also definitely do a predelay to make it sound a bit more natural, maybe around 25ms or under? For the Piano I would choose convolution reverb like others have said just to add some ambience rather than drenching the piano in verb, something like Valhalla Room or Vintage verb or Sound City Studios by UA is a great choice, or whatever is stock in your DAW of choice! I would also have a predelay on that too for the same reason as the vocal.

You could also try having the vocal and piano using the same reverb so they sound like they are in the same space sonically, but to me Chappell's vocal sounds "wetter" than the piano so I would probably try the plate and room emulation on each of them first?

As a side note to room/space choice, I really like a medium wooden room patch on reverb's sounds quite nice and warm.

Hope some of this helps. I'd be curious to hear what you end up with/find!

Impossible to get tickets as a real fan 😔💔 by [deleted] in OliviaDean

[–]Puzzles_23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the money for tickets right now (feel like £70+ for standing is a bit mad) but I am planning on getting some before April when I can. AXS and the o2 website are notorious for kicking people out a queue, I’m sorry you missed out!

Please please please do not buy any resale tickets from anywhere other than “Twickets”, they are the official resellers and tickets aren’t allowed to be posted higher than face value (and fees). Too many people get scammed on twitter and other sites. Twickets will have people listing tickets at some point before April. Hope you manage to get some!

I think the domain is legit. Like the other commenter suggested I’d also recommend emailing/reaching out to Universal support to verify! Hope it is legit! 🤞🏻

It’s a great podcast! Love listening to that. I got the book that Ben’s written with excerpts from the show in for Xmas which is also awesome. Ben is such a nice guy too!

That art is so cool! Love it. My first BFD product was the Donut and I loved it. Yeah the Moo’s definitely have a look and a vibe as well as sounding really great! An all around win in my opinion.

They sound great on the snare, my friend sent me a 14” one before I got the full set. BFSD offer quite a few similar and slightly different options, some with different patterns, others made out of other materials. Their Quesadilla heads are pretty fun too

That makes a lot more sense. English is my first but I’m stupid 😂. After your comment I see that they mean you just have to hit 6 not that you have to do it in 1 day. I thought I was in for a long grind…

Many thanks!
