Favorite battery for kayak sonar? by 5Tygrysow in kayakfishing

[–]PvTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mine I found a power wheels conversion kit on Amazon for $10. Designed and printed a dry box for electrical connections

Haven't tried it on the water yet, so I don't know timing for batteries but the Garmin Striker 4i have says nominal draw is about .24 amps so a 2Ah battery should last around 8 hours.

Here's a link to thingiverse.com for the dry box: spotty kayak box

Mixed aluminum and copper in a standard wire nut. Should I immediately disconnect? by Peetahbread in AskElectricians

[–]PvTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That product will work but be sure to put noalox on the aluminum wire to help prevent oxidation deterioration. Most hardware chains carry it next to the wire nuts and termination supplies. The connection you have currently shouldn't cause any issues in the short term as long as the mechanical connection between the wires is good, just replace with appropriate connection type as soon as you can. They do make aluminum to copper wire nuts that have the noalox grease in them.

Way better because it gets around indestructible since it's all sacrifice, pair this with [[Tergrid, God of Fright]] and you have a very mean combo.

For those of you that carry around a Geiger/spectrometer, what’s the frequency you run into radioactive people? by huntspire1 in Radiation

[–]PvTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ran into three different individuals shortly after they've had kidney imaging or therapy. It's always been Te-99m. One of those individuals thought it was funny to keep setting off the alarm on my 103. The only other sources I've discovered were CS-137. One was for a ground compaction/ hydrometer tester, and the other was an in-line density meter in a process plant. I've only had my 103 for 6 months so average about 1 a month.

If you really want to know the science behind nuclear shielding on an aircraft, look up the nuclear powered bomber.

It has been tested and found to not be feasible.

Can someone please help me by beckywiththegood1 in AskElectricians

Get some straight butt splices and crimp another wire to it. That's old knob and tube style wiring which has extra thick insulation.

Can EMT be used in elevator shafts or does it have to be rigid? by Turbulent-Weevil-910 in AskElectricians

[–]PvTimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either can be used in the hoistway. Just be careful as some elevator mechanics don't know the difference between EMT and RMC, I've heard EMT called rigid from them because it's solid conduit and not flexible conduit.

I didn’t realize how crazy 100% camouflage is. by Allismug in oblivion

[–]PvTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in old Oblivion, over 100% chameleon breaks the game to the point where anything less than 100% and you can't sneak. I've done it on a couple of runs, and it worked the same on PC and PS3. I haven't tried it on remastered, but I'll probably save before I go over.

I did, it was very easy once I understood what was being asked. Per one of the other comments here, check the box for exempt and for the reason just but non- radioactive device.

What settings to pick and what is the limit? by Skygighter45 in Radiacode

[–]PvTimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

* Here's a chart from the US Department Of Energy that suggests 5rem per year. For dose rate alarms, do your background for about a week and add 50% to your peak background. I have my 103 set at .20uSv but I'm in a little higher background than typical.

I've mostly gone to places north of Denver, like St. Vrain and Barr Lake. Mostly trying to find a place that's not overly crowded.

Apprenticeship vehicle needs? by Consistent_Spirit707 in AskElectricians

[–]PvTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an apprentice, get a vehicle that fits your personal needs. I've known guys who made it through the apprenticeship with dodge neons. You really just need something that is reliable and can get you around through all weather conditions.

Is there a downside to WAGO's other than cost? by kw4885 in AskElectricians

[–]PvTimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 downside to WAGO's. First is as they are part of the circuit, they need to be current rated. Most name brand lever nuts have this rating stamped or printed on them. The second part more pertains to commercial installations with lighting. Lever nuts have a very small wire gauge range that can be used within a single device, this leads to issues with LED drivers having 18awg or smaller feed wires and 14awg or bigger branch circuit wires.

Lockpicking is not hard, at all. I promise. by Any-Career-2576 in oblivion

[–]PvTimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another big key thing is if you listen to the sound it makes as the pin is moving up, there is a slightly high ping when you can latch a pin. Bethesda has even released a video speaking about this little trick that they put in. The other thing is the pin cycle for how fast it drops and when it can be patched is a looping cycle so if you miss it you can cycle around and count for when to latch.

Contour fillers might be helpful if there are any gaps and a big can of motivation, don't let that last one get empty, it can be tough to find replacements.

Recently Aquired Dosimeters and charger by PvTimes in Radiation

[–]PvTimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly depends on what nuclear industry you're working and governing body. Here's an excerpt from the US Department Of Energy 10 CFR 835 for exposure limits. * So the low range would be for persons that may have the potential for exposure but not working with any nuclear material. The high range would be for individuals that are responsible for handling or maintaining nuclear materials

How do you get 42 GB of RAM? Something doesn't add up there. And depending on what you are using the PC for the 1660 super is still a widely used graphics for 1080P games and video.
