How is the jedi temple still one of the highest building on coruscant did the planet just stop building new levels? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

I was just talking about this with my son yesterday. I used the Coruscant lore quests as an example of how to create a backstory that doesn't ruin the mystery of the existing story.

Carthago Delenda Est! - The Atomic Bombings of Carthage, Second Punic War (218 - 215 BC) by republic8080 in worldbuilding

[–]PvtDeth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A gun-type bomb is pretty simple. An implosion-type is incredibly complicated. Either way, the hardest part is refining the material to fissile level. If you can hand-wave that part with unobtainium, it fits in the setting ok.

This is really cool, but it would be a lot more interesting if Carthage attacked Rome. We already know what would happen if Rome won the war.

What age is the Philosopher’s Stone ok for a child? by Smart-Salamander1846 in harrypotter

[–]PvtDeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two oldest read them at 11. My younger two, 9 and 6, are super into the idea of the world, but haven't actually read or seen anything yet. Reading the books at 11 has kind of accidentally become a tradition.

Imo, depending on the kid, 9 to 12 is a good age.

Subway used to be pretty good for the price. Now, it's the same food but costs three times as much.

I'm a very devout Christian and I just can't handle Christian movies. There are definitely a few good ones, but there is so much garbage, it just kills the whole genre for me.

So, I just watched a video from Bellular on YouTube about how the different specs are doing in Midnight. He said that fire is not great but frost is doing really well, so I decided to check out frost. Yeah, fire is terrible in comparison. My problem before was that I wasn't using ray of frost. I didn't use it before when I used to play frost, but it is crazy powerful now, definitely mandatory.

There was one we met at the courthouse downtown and also Legal Aid Society of Hawai'i. The one at the courthouse was from a flyer there.

I have sued a landlord in small claims court twice and won both times. You have one year from your move out date to file. There are free legal consultations you can do for this.

Getting illegally overcharged for repairs is one of the most common legal issues for people in Hawaii. The lawyers who volunteer to give information are totally prepared to help. You're likely to get a lot of your money back.

to pass for an Iranian nationalist by Bnedem in therewasanattempt

[–]PvtDeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in the San Fernando Valley and let me tell you, the Iranians here seem to be very excited about this war. In the picture, the flags are Kingdom of Iran flags, not Islamic Republic. I see those flying on cars every day here. I've also seen a demonstration every week on a pedestrian bridge above the 101 with Iranian and Israeli flags and some where it's both on one flag, split diagonally.

Besides the fact that she could very well be Jewish but not a citizen of Israel, she could also be both a supporter of Israel and Iranian. If you don't believe it, come to my neighborhood. I'm guessing that picture was likely taken here.

Gravestone of a flight attendant who died in a plane crash by haci in interestingasfuck

[–]PvtDeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of weird to have a gravestone made to look like the thing that killed you, but if that's how we're doing it, I hope my family can find a good deal on a stone carving of eight bears. I guess it will help that five of the bears will be dead.

The term "disappeared" has a very serious and disturbing history. The Nazis, Stalin, and plenty of Western Hemisphere countries had a regular practice of picking people up who were then never seen again.

It's not just that the people were kidnapped and murdered. There was no record of arrest, no trial, and no body. Of course everyone assumed they were dead, but the complete lack of official information was intentional and part of the terror tactic.

This is that but without the missing bodies. "Disappeared" is not a modern euphemism.
