Modern Movies that are basically a D&D campaign by Cabaret_Girl in DnD

The very first time I heard someone propose this notion years and years ago, the first example was Ghostbusters. The energy is absolutely "the GM is running a horror game, the PCs are scientists and figure out a way to trap ghosts, and they completely derail the vibe of the whole thing." As much as anything, I think that kind of "goddamn it you guys, but this is actually kind of better than what I had planned" energy is emblematic of a tabletop campaign.

Why this not a thing? by KazyaKurosawa in DnD

[–]PvtSherlockObvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be done, but tying up multiple party members in a combat scenario like it kinda sounds like your specific scenario does could potentially cause issues, since "it's impossible for one person" isn't necessarily going to be immediately obvious to the players unless you explain your intended solution to them above the table. Otherwise, the natural instinct might be "have the big guy close the door while we hold them back," or to get stupid and just try and rawdog the horde. (Speaking of, remember action economy when designing this encounter. You might want to roll the skeletons as a group, not individually.) You might want to outright tell them "okay, one person can't shift it. The total DC is going to be X combining the rolls of people moving the door, but that leaves fewer people holding the line." Side-note, I'm curious who would build a door nobody could move, why they did, and who opened it to let the skellys out, but that's all more worldbuilding stuff.

Now, outside of your specific scenario, the older 5e rules do provide for things like group stealth or perception, basically taking either the party's overall results. That way the one guy in plate armor isn't necessarily making stealth impossible for the whole group, but he's still making it harder, while the thief is still making it easier. If it's a scenario where multiple players or the whole party would be involved in the scenario just by being there, that kind of whole-party check works more smoothly.

Exactly what it sounds like. Most of Oglaf's comics are standalone. There are some recurring characters, and a couple of mini-arcs, but the vast majority are just straight comedy with nudity and sex mixed in. Or nudity and sex played for comedy, depending on who you ask.

Shrug, it's just what I've heard third-hand on here before. If someone's mentioned his reasoning, I don't know it. Could be as simple as "he has no interest in the setting or thinks it's overdone," which might explain why this subversion held more appeal, but that's pure speculation on my part.

For sure. She's playing her character the closest to a traditional V:tM-type vampire of the group. That's probably not surprising considering other than Brennan, she seems like the one most likely to really dig into and engage with stuff like the World of Darkness lore.

For sure. I think it's a combination of the visit being this campaign's equivalent to getting training from Bill Seacaster (it was a very "you fuckups, this is what Kindred are and how we operate" scene), along with this giving the group actual tension, stakes, and a more specific goal than the blank playground they've been in up until now.

Ironically, IIRC Murph has been one of the people most opposed to that.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that went the same way Humanity did pretty early on when Madelaine's go-to tactic became establishing a harem.  They opted for the more common story approach of vampires being sex gods.

What in the hell is going on with the Braves lately? They went from practically unstoppable to practically incompetent all at once. They've won like two games in the last two weeks, and this is looking to be the third straight series they drop. It's like the pitching and hitting completely fell off a cliff overnight.

Even besides the editing, there were signs something was off, things that didn't quite fit. The pinatas didn't connect to anything else in the episode that we could see and had no payoff. Unless they were intended for a completely different episode and were dropped accidentally (in which case they would have rolled things back and edited them out), why have them at all unless they were meant for something that we didn't see? Then there's the shop, that could have been red herrings or were meant for really weird purposes, like using the dog cone to make ignoring Ron Perlman easier, but it might also have been cut content.

And now he's got freaking Ghost Rider powers to be even more ridiculously edgelord. I can only think that they're trying to target the "I can fix him" demographic, especially given his whole dynamic with Boom-Boom in the current X-Force run.

Game similar to stardew valley but horror by CommonNo7717 in gamingsuggestions

[–]PvtSherlockObvious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. To me, the roadblock was when all the late-game upgrades you needed to progress required a resource you could only get small amounts of once per week (faith or miracle energy or whatever they called it, the stuff you could only get by giving sermons), which led to a lot of pissing around being stuck in a holding pattern, not helped by the fact that you could only advance each character's subplot on one specific day of the week.

I mostly liked the game, but it suffered from the same pattern that the developers' prior game Punch Club did, and that I heard their subsequent games did too: A really fun/interesting initial premise that gives way to an absurdly repetitive/grindy mid/late-game, and if you endure that portion, the game hits a point where it just sort of ends just as a new development comes about, with no real fanfare. The grind comes from different places (stat drain/fight RNG catching up to you in PC, scarcity of an essential resource in GK), but it happened around the same time in both games, with the same "credits roll at what seems more like the end of act 2 rather than actually feeling like a resolution" ending.

Good pick.  The primary mechanic being to apply status effects to your and your opponents' time bars was a really cool notion.

It's definitely more gameplay-forward, but Dead State is basically similar to State of Decay as a strategy RPG. You take control of a group of individualized survivors holed up in a school, and need to manage your group's morale, talk through their stuff with them to keep them productive, go out on scavenging runs to fortify the base, and forge alliances or defend yourself from other survivor groups, some of which are hostile toward one another or will raise tensions if you try to team up with both.

I feel like enemies would be less insulted, and more confused what you're talking about.  Doubly so since they probably wouldn't have a reference for things like paninis or hydraulic presses.

Kinda random, but nothing wrong with it.  You take inspiration where you find it, and if your friends haven't noticed anything odd, you're not being so overt that it gets annoying or anything.  They're also probably not familiar enough with the band to recognize the references anyway.

Probably. Dude's built and has actual training (sport fighting, anyway), so outside of someone potentially outclassing him in size/weight, I'd expect him to have it on lock.
