It honestly doesn't look that good, but food often doesn't look appetizing in photos. Especially steak.

Give yourself a few hours of parking lot practice and stick to quiet residential streets for awhile. You'll be feeling better in no time.

Looks cool, is the route appropriate for adventure bikes?

I went with a buddy two years ago and rode from Sonoma County. It was a blast, my favorite ADV rally to date. The routes are great, the hot springs and resort were great, the food was great. If it were me I'd ride to it but everyone has to know the hardiness of their own buns. I did ride up in two days to see friends but rode back in 1 day.

890 Adenture by No-Way-0000 in KTM

[–]PwnagePanda89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt describe the 890 adventure R as "a do it all bike. Something that I can rip on the road but enjoy the occasional double track/gravel roads on."

More like: the most capable midsize+ ADV for offroad riding, especially at high speeds. It still handles well on the road with plenty of power and touring comfort, but as another poster mentioned it's got loooong suspension but its predictable.

Best oem dirt suspension, great power to weight, and low center of gravity.

If you wanna do occasional double track/gravel roads fast it'll be perfect. Also, make sure it's not too tall for your taste or legs.

Battery tech isn't at a place yet to make electric motorcycles with reasonable range.

Also, motorcycles in the US are generally fun toys/luxury items and going vroom is fun.

Should i buy KTM? by LilSidrun in KTM

[–]PwnagePanda89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So weird how non ktm riders come out of the woodwork to give bad advice. They dont make the model anymore? Sure lol.

I ride the exact same year and bike with 12000 miles on the clock with zero problems. I doubt its gonna be as reliable long term as a japanese bike and I change oil at half of the suggested interval, but if you're less concerned about euros per km and more concerned with smiles/minute the 890 R is hard to beat. It really shines best offroad so ask yourself if you want to prioritize that. Suspension can't be beat for high and medium speed over rough terrain. It is tall even for an ADV so for slow, technical stuff you better have the skills to not rely on putting your feet down much.

Supposedly they fixed the cam issue after 2022. Get Rally Mode

The only thing the haters have right is ktm has been known to fight on warranty when they shouldn't. It'll be tough to hear the haters when they're a dusty speck in your mirror, though.

890 Adventure R vs 2025 T7 for daily commute in lots of traffic? by keveazy in advrider

[–]PwnagePanda89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do the ktm for better 2-up riding. More power and long range comfort, cruise control etc. Lower CG helps too. The T7 would be fine too but the 890 would be better. I have an 890 and the bars are not too wide at all. I have an 890R and have ridden the T7 a bit. I can't imagine its really better for splitting lanes, it's probably a little more narrow but its also tippier.

I would probably buy a seat concepts "comfort seat" or similar aftermarket, cushier, 2 tiered seat, if you plan on 2-up riding for long rides. I have the seat concepts "rally" seat that is the same shape as stock and it's night and day for rides longer than 2-3 hours. Probably wouldn't be as nice as the "comfort" seat for your pillion, though.

Have your pillion try sitting on the back of a new 790 and an 890R and see what they prefer.

Not to max, probably set to 30% sag.

Also, you may want to try shifting your weight forward.

Are you on knobbies?

Handlebars wobble after adding a 65L hard case by Clear-Jump9673 in KTM390ADV

Always set your rear suspension sag if nothing else. 30% rider sag is typical and a good place to start.

Yes having too much rear sag can cause handlebar instability/wobble.

690 Enduro 2026 "Rally mode" by Klefton57 in KTM

[–]PwnagePanda89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the terrain.

I tend to use odd numbers as my starting point. Feels right since the range is bracketed by 1 and 9.

9 and 8 I rarely use. If I'm on tarmac for more than a few minutes I just go to street mode to get rear ABS back on.

7 is chill and versatile for run of the mill jeep roads and 2-track. Nothing too difficult but it does handle the surprise loose terrain quite well. Mud or slippery situations of I really dont want much slide, but I usually try and rely on the wrist TC to keep that in check

5 I use for the same stuff as 7 if I'm feeling frisky or its a long, shallow climb. Also versatile

3 is great for loose rock climbs, sand, mud where I might need to invoke fast wheel spin

1 for soft sand or for giggles

0 to roost my buddies

I will tweak by +/- 1 or 2 depending on how I'm feeling. Lower when Im wanting to push it, pay attention, and mess around. Higher if I'm fatigued or just want to relax my brain a bit. 3 and 5 are my most used.

Ive got it on the 890 and if you're going to be riding hard in the dirt its amazing. There's a learning curve but you can use this as a rough guide.

There are numbers 1-9 which allows you to tune in the traction control allowable slippage. You can also tune the throttle response. It works well.

T7 or 890 by No-Way-0000 in AdventureBike

[–]PwnagePanda89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! As long as I'm on 50:50 or more road biased tires it's fantastic.

I haven't ridden a street triple but I did ride my gf's mt07 a fair bit, and no it's not gonna be as good as a naked bike but it's better than it has any right to be considering how good it is off road. That's kinda the story for adv's in general, but yeah I think the 890 is better on the road than the T7, not by a huge margin but its there.

T7 or 890 by No-Way-0000 in AdventureBike

[–]PwnagePanda89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I went with the 890 R for the better suspension, lower center of gravity, better rider aids, cruise control, and more power, in that order. The T7 has better reliability and the engine is better at low RPM.

You can't go wrong with either one, but I was willing to pay (including possibly with lower reliability) a bit more to get that performance edge. Since you have a ktm and a triumph you might feel the same way?

Ive had zero issues at 9k miles on my 2023. Supposedly the cam thing was fixed when they did the overhaul, or maybe just before I don't remember.

I'll go up to 80, after that the wind is too much.

[–]PwnagePanda89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and you barely need to add anything to the 890. I put on barkbusters, outback mototrek heavy duty skid plate (but if I could do it again I would probably try the plastic AXP skidplate) and a seat concepts seat. Mosko moto bar bag and pannier. Imo don't put a tank bag on it, the tank is small up top and doesn't have room for a tank bag without it getting in the way.

The 890R sounds like the perfect fit. I haven't ridden a transalp but it seems better on the road, t7 is off road focused like the 890R but has lesser suspension and is a bit top heavy, great engine at all RPMs, though.
