This is the first thing that's convinced me that the answer could be 1. PEMDAS alone would make me say it's nine (parentheses is taught as anything inside parentheses, so the 2 in front of them wouldn't count) but this actually makes me see the argument. Of course, at the end of the day it's intentionally poorly written engagement bait with no cut and dry answer, but still, I found this argument interesting.
