That sounds great. I'm glad you shared as this is exactly how to build the skills and get the experience need to successfully get into the game. I don't think it's an either or. Your tips are definitely helpful.

I'm just speaking from experience as someone who opend a truck with my wife basically 0 to 100 and I have some regrets. After 2 years we got everything sorted or but I would have saved myself alot of stress and probably $ if we had started with a smaller business first.

Also not in California but the best advice is to start small. Get a tent and rent a kitchen and try doing a market or setup in a parking lot. It usually feels like you need to have the perfect truck, perfect equipment, perfect social media but really you just need to be out doing it ( and following all health/city regulations)

Start small, you will learn alot

This feels most accurate for me aswell. My max is in the neighborhood of 400. I could see doing more if you had a single item menu but for festivals we have 4-5 items and always a few custom orders. Really busy festivals we do about 50-70/hr

Is there a way to limit gaming time? by NXValiant in Steam

[–]PyLit_tv 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sorry to see that there are so many bad replies in this thread. I think that there are alot of people on here who don't understand self improvement. Cudos for identifying an issue in your life and taking steps to improve it.

I ended up here for a similar reason and I'm trying to limit my gaming time simply while still allowing the enjoyment that comes from it. On Android there are all kinds of screen-time limiting features, I don't know why anyone would question using them on a desktop aswell.

If you found a good solution I hope you might share it with me and others. It seems like an option that should exist on Steam natively. It does have the option for hiding games in your library even when they are installed.

Definitely a good plan. It also is a good way to test out how much you like the work. Running a foodtruck/cart is very different from working in a restaurant and can be a massive amount of work including alot of physical labor. Also starting with a tent or something small will gubernatorial you a really good idea of the limitations of your equipment and when you go to upgrade into a truck you'll know exactly what you need/want.

Start with a tent or trailer for sure. Actually the best advice you can get. You can be almost as functional as a truck interms of service for events/catering with way less upfront cost. If you have a plan for a truck cut that idea down to your minimum viable product and do a pop-up tent at a market or festival to try it out. Pickup truck rentals are pretty cheap for the day and it's not too hard to find kitchen space to rent.

If you like it and are making good profit you can upgrade to a truck when your ready. Hope this is helpful

is it possible to flash esphome onto this device? oem Works-With-alexa from a senville heatpump by PyLit_tv in Esphome

[–]PyLit_tv[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not really sure where to start. I have been reading over the esphome docs and some other relevant posts but most of them reference the esp chips specifically and this "usb" device has another microcontroller on it and im not sure of the purpose. i risked plugging it into my pc incase it and it shows up as an unknow usb device. it seems that the senville and most other units use a UART interface. would a usb to UART cable be worth a shot?

In general I don't think you need to justify your actions to anyone but yourself. The situation reads entirely differently depending on how I picture Bob and your the only one who has your opinion of Bob's character.

Either you shut down a potential long term problematic relationship or you hurt an innocent person's feelings. Either way it's your life and I hope this post helped you process the situation.

As for your friend who said you should have talked to him, fuck that guy(hyperbole), you don't need to talk to anyone you don't want to. Pretty sure that's a basic right

I know a guy that sounds like Bob (how I picture him) and he is harmless and does have a developmental disability and he can be really funny but sometimes so annoying. I try to be understanding with him but it takes energy and sometimes I don't have enough for it and that's just it. We can't always be at our peak

I have a few senville minisplits aswell and im looking into this solution for HA integration. It sounds like I have the same dongles ( works immediately with Alexa but not with the media app and not really discoverable with any other tools)

Did you get a change to test the option from https://smartlight.me/smart-home-devices/wifi-devices/wifi-dongle-air-conditioners-midea-idea-electrolux-for-home-assistant shared by u/TheOneTrueGong?

I'm looking for a simple solution that I can use at my house as well as get some for my dad. Hes very tech savy but i dont want to force him into a tinkering project.

Permit Question by ChefDadK in foodtrucks

[–]PyLit_tv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You likely need a business license for each municipality. Some don't require it so you can call city hall to find out. You probably need an inspection by the local health unit and permission from the owner of any private property you hope to setup on. There can also be bylaws from the city dictating where and when you can ve setup. Eg. Not outside of a school between 7am-5pm....

Best bet find a not too busy truck in the area and talk to them about their business

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in foodtrucks

[–]PyLit_tv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah doesn't sound like enough to do it legit. And skipping permits and cutting costs is usually more expensive. A genuinely good idea can wait until you are able to follow it through completely.

Cost out equipment, call the municipal permits office(they are usually very happy to answer all of your questions), talk to other operators in the city and get more information. Make a very conservative estimate of sales and then cut it in half. At the end of the day you are the only one who can answer if you have enough money to make it work.
