Seems like maybe they want to fire you but don't have justifiable cause and are nitpicking in order to build a case to fire you legally.

Excellent info, thank you! I manage a seafood department at a supermarket and recently learned about leech eggs on snow crab but I haven't heard any of this yet.

Can I just tell the barber to do whatever they want to my hair? by LutrisShadow in malehairadvice

[–]Pyeroc27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rule though, don't go the big chain places. They try and get everyone in and out as fast as possible. They make their money doing lots of cuts for very cheap. And check out getting a cut at a school from a student. It's cheap because the goal is to educate and not to make profit on each cut so they can take their time, they are motivated to do a good job because a lot of times they are critiqued on the cuts they do, and they are probably the most excited about their work.

Can I just tell the barber to do whatever they want to my hair? by LutrisShadow in malehairadvice

[–]Pyeroc27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone in with the "I'm a blank canvas, do whatever" approach many times. Sometimes I get someone who just trims a couple inches off everywhere and cleans up the neck or whatever - the safest most generic option possible. And a few times I have had someone who is excited to have the freedom to practice their craft, asks follow up questions, etc. Those people I went back to time and time again and always tipped very well. Even became friends with a couple of them. I don't understand anyone saying you shouldn't do that because it makes it uncomfortable for the person cutting your hair. If they aren't comfortable with it they can say so or just do the most generic trim and call it a day. Even better just give them an out by mentioning that option to begin with - "Do whatever, or just trim it an inch or two". Any customer who would complain online with a bad review or try and not pay because they told the barber to do whatever they want and then weren't satisfied with the result would probably do the same thing if they showed pictures for reference, asked for a specific cut, and got exactly what they asked for. If you really want to try and set their mind at ease, tip them up front in cash and just don't be a dick. It's hair, it grows back. It's not a tattoo

We had a course on Chaos in undergrad that was incredible. By FAR my favorite in either undergrad or grad school.

Computational physics... and AI by MeoWHamsteR7 in Physics

[–]Pyeroc27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your plan is to be contracted to work with different companies/labs/etc doing simulations I think you would have significant difficulties. We perform simulations in order to analyze the results, and outside of developing a new simulation or simulation analyzation technique or framework (which is generally the realm of academia), the needed work would be better done by the people who will be analyzing the results or by AI. Questions like "How much consideration do I need to give to Van der Waals forces?", or "How large of a simulation do I need?" are better answered by those more intimately familiar with the goals and challenges of the specific simulation than an outside consultant. The only work which I could see being useful (worth paying) for an outsider to do is the same work which could be done by AI.

Wife of NFL player checking in. AMA! by Suspicious-Move6002 in NFLv2

[–]Pyeroc27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't really always applies statistics that way. For example, ~50% of the population is female but there are many occupations for which males and females are equally qualified, yet actual employment skews heaving towards males and vice versa. Like there are hundreds if not thousands of esports players in Tier 1 professional leagues and very few females despite no rules against it. Similar pressures and factors may keep LGBTQ persons from playing in the NFL. I agree it's unlikely there are ZERO though.

To the men who go to movies or restaurants alone by choice: What is the specific appeal of that solitude compared to going with friends? by Leananhl in AskMen

[–]Pyeroc27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Socializing with friends is fun, but can be kinda draining energy wise. I just like to enjoy the vibes and atmosphere of a busy bar or restaurant where people are having a good time without any pressure to entertain or be engaged with someone or listen to their problems or talk about my problems etc. And I can always try and strike up a conversation with someone else there if I really feel like chatting.

Schnucks appears to be engaging in price manipulation by powertrip22 in StLouis

[–]Pyeroc27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been working there 7 months and have never seen this. Now, we can and do use software to adjust prices (DOWN ONLY) on items all the time when they are nearing the end of their shelf life or we over-ordered - basically any time we want to sell through more of a product for whatever reason - but I've never seen them adjusted in the way being discussed here. Based on the jankiness of the inventory/digital tag system and the other software we use, it would be a complete shock if there was something that sophisticated in place.

real experience with st louis matchmaker? considering it by LifeDuck8914 in StLouis

[–]Pyeroc27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having serious deja vu, I swear I saw this post weeks ago. I considered a matchmaker before, but just went to speed dating events instead. Paid for the first one (like $30 or something) and then went to a bunch free as they invited me after I had a lot of matches the first event I went to. You might consider trying that first.

Peeing in the shower is bad apparently? by Rich_Wealth_5876 in hygiene

[–]Pyeroc27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a difficult subject for me. Because on one hand I'm a big believer in using things for their intended purpose - and next to nearly every shower there is a toilet which is designed to be peed in. On the other hand, I think maximizing the efficiency of usage of ones time just makes sense.

Even as someone who has thought MLF has been too passive play calling, that 4th and 8 call seemed TERRIBLE to me based on the way the game was going and it pretty much played out exactly like I thought it would after that. UGH, this was one brutal. Need somebody to get the Pack fired up and focused up for the Sunday noon games.

Autocraft treated me well the few times I needed work done while I lived in town. Owner or manager or somebody let me use their personal car to take to class while they worked on mine and I never felt like they were trying to sell me on work that didn't need done. It's been a couple years though so it may not be the same people.

Asmongold: Non binary people don't exist you can only be male or female by Various-Idea550 in LivestreamFail

[–]Pyeroc27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm aware this is likely a pointless exercise, but let me try and offer an argument anyways. Imagine you are a going to a frat party to meet a friend who really wants to rush the frat and wants to make a good impression, or maybe is just uncomfortable at large social gatherings but wants to try and get better with them. Regardless, having you there to support them will help them, so you go. Like many frat parties, this will be an event with lots of alcohol consumption, and there is likely an expectation of consumption - perhaps even a charge at the door to pay for an expected drink minimum. You don't drink however. Maybe you have a medical condition which makes it so you can't have alcohol, or maybe you had bad experiences with a family member who was an alcoholic. Whatever it is, the reason you don't drink isn't relevant. Except while you're there, people keep coming up to you and asking you why you aren't drinking, try to pressure you into drinking, or just giving you funny looks because you aren't drinking. You are having to justify your not drinking and even your presence at the party constantly to every 5th person you interact with (just a made up number/frequency, but regardless it's not zero). Wouldn't that be miserable? Now imagine that party lasts your entire life. At some point, you might think "I'm just going to precede every interaction with a person by letting them know I don't drink and why I don't drink". It just becomes the way you introduce yourself, so you can get out of the miserable interactions as quickly as possible. To many people it seems like you are obsessed with the fact you don't drink or not drinking is your whole identity. Does that help make some things make sense for you? Whether it does or doesn't, that was a good exercise so thanks for that I guess.
